About Aequify (https://aequify.com)
Aequify helps expatriates manage cross-border money the simple way: connect bank/investment accounts across 30+ countries, see net worth and cashflow in one place, and helps expats manage their cross-border finances with ease.
We are pushing the boundaries of LLMs and AI Agents and looking for deeply technical, hardworking individuals.
The Role
We’re hiring a Lead Developer (Founding Engineer) to own our technical foundation and ship the next milestones of Aequify’s product. You’ll lead architecture and hands-on development, establish engineering practices, and help us scale.
You’ll thrive here if you enjoy building 0→1 products, care deeply about security/compliance, and like turning ambiguity into shipping code.
What you’ll do
· Own the architecture: Modular service boundaries, data models, and APIs that support account aggregation, enrichment, and tax workflows.
· Ship core features end-to-end: React/Next.js front-end + Node/TypeScript back-end, data ingestion, reconciliation, and reporting.
· Security & compliance by default: Secrets management, RBAC, audit trails, PII encryption, logging/monitoring, basic SOC 2/GDPR/PIPEDA readiness.
· Observability & ops: Set up CI/CD, infra as code, metrics/alerts, cost tracking, and SLOs.
· Data & intelligence: Instrument categorization, rules/heuristics, and agent-assisted workflows (LangGraph/LLM where it truly helps).
· Technical leadership: Code reviews, lightweight standards, mentoring contractors, and participating in early hiring.
· Work with the founder: Translate customer pain into a tight roadmap and pragmatic delivery plan.
Minimum qualifications
· 5+ years building and operating production web applications.
· Strong TypeScript/Node.js, React/Next.js, and REST/GraphQL API design.
· Cloud (AWS preferred): VPC/IAM, Lambda/EC2/ECS, S3, CloudWatch; IaC (Terraform/CDK/pulumi).
· Datastores: MongoDB (or Postgres), indexing, migrations, and query performance.
· Security mindset: OAuth/OIDC, secrets management, encryption, least privilege, and data-privacy best practices.
· Strong event-based system design experience.
· Product sense: you can cut scope smartly, ship iteratively, and instrument what matters.
Nice to have
· Experience with fintech/payments/banking data, aggregator integrations
· ETL/streaming experience (webhooks, queues, retries, idempotency).
· LLM/agents experience (LangGraph/OpenAI tools) used pragmatically for data classification or advisor workflows.
· Prior startup/founding engineer experience; comfort with fractional contractors and growing a team.
· Familiarity with SOC 2, GDPR/PIPEDA, and secure SDLC practices (SAST/DAST, dependency scanning).
Compensation & work style
· Equity + stipend: Meaningful equity with a starting basic stipend; grows with traction/funding. Open to full-time or fractional → full-time.
· Remote-first but needs to be flexible to work across time zones.
· Velocity with care: We ship quickly while maintaining a strong security posture for financial data.
· Visa application support for strong performers after >1 year in the role.
