About Blue J
Blue J is the leading generative AI solution for tax professionals. As a B2B SaaS company, our customers are accountants and tax experts who rely on our market-leading software to deliver fast, accurate, and defensible answers to complex tax questions.
With the launch of our flagship generative AI product, we’ve consistently exceeded our revenue targets quarter over quarter and continue to accelerate our growth. Our product roadmap is ambitious, customer-focused, and designed to deliver exceptional value at speed.
On the heels of our $122M USD Series D funding, we’re racing ahead with an exciting product roadmap and are looking for a Canadian Tax Research Associate to help scale our tax expertise while shaping the next generation of AI-powered tax research tools.
A Note on Location
This role is primarily remote, with the expectation of occasional in-person meetings at our Toronto office and some travel for conferences.
The Opportunity
We’re looking for a Canadian CPA or Tax Lawyer with 3–6 years of experience specializing in Canadian tax, ideally gained at a mid-market accounting firm.
Our ideal candidate is well-versed in Canadian income tax and may also have exposure to indirect tax matters, including GST/HST. As a Tax Research Associate, you will use your tax expertise to play a central role in continuing to develop Blue J, our large language model-enabled tax research tool. As a key member of our growing team of tax researchers, you’ll have the unique opportunity to participate in building the next generation of world-class tax research tools.
In this role, you will gain invaluable experience and learn from some of the best in the fields of AI and tax. While we’re an AI company, extensive prior AI experience is not required. We’re looking for someone who is curious about emerging technologies and open to learning, with some familiarity or exposure to AI tools through their day-to-day work or personal life. You’ll help us build technology that will transform tax practice for tax professionals and play an instrumental role as Blue J continues to grow.
If this sounds like something that you’re excited about, we would love to meet you!
We’re a team of passionate, driven, and friendly people all working towards the same goal, and are excited to welcome a new Canadian Tax Research Associate to our team!
What You’ll be Doing
- Tax Research: You will use your excellent tax research skills and knowledge to quickly locate relevant primary and secondary sources; adapt quickly to researching, understanding and summarizing questions across multiple areas of tax law; evaluate sources for accuracy and currency; efficiently analyze source documents to support your analysis; and assess the quality and accuracy of AI-generated tax analysis.
- Process Awareness: You will apply your understanding of accounting firm workflows to help align our product with real-world use cases. This insight will be critical in refining our solution for broader adoption.
- Teamwork: You will use your tax knowledge to work with other experienced tax professionals, and alongside a team of analysts and data scientists to develop and improve our AI tools. You will build strong relationships with the entire tax research team and the data science team, working collaboratively and learning from each other. You will thrive in our environment where diverse thoughts are welcome and innovation is encouraged. Experience in machine learning and data science is not necessary – just an open mind and an eagerness to collaborate.
- Strategic thinking: As a core member of our product team, you will have a sense of pride and ownership, constantly thinking strategically and critically about how we can continuously improve the Blue J products.
- Evolving based on client needs: Our goal is to work in true partnership with our clients (tax professionals) by attending to their feedback, troubleshooting, and incorporating their recommendations to consistently and reliably add value. A key skill in this role is adaptability and openness to new ideas.
