Our client Carbon Upcycling is hiring an Industrial Operations Specialist to support the commissioning, startup, and optimization of its first commercial-scale plant in Mississauga, Ontario. The Industrial Operations Specialist is a hands-on leader responsible for supporting the commissioning, startup, stabilization, and ongoing operation of our commercial facility. Working closely with plant leadership, they provide frontline technical expertise across operations, maintenance, process optimization, and team development to help ensure safe, reliable, and efficient plant performance. This is a highly visible, field-based role for an experienced cement industry professional who leads by example, thrives in dynamic industrial environments, and is willing to step in wherever needed to support the team and keep the plant operating successfully.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Support plant commissioning, startup, stabilization (during the first year), and ongoing operations while helping establish safe and reliable operating practices from day one

  • Provide hands-on leadership across daily plant operations, maintenance activities, and contractor execution, ensuring work is completed safely and efficiently

  • Coordinate operational and maintenance priorities, including shift handovers, work execution planning, and response to abnormal operating conditions

  • Troubleshoot mechanical, operational, and process issues in collaboration with the team to restore and maintain stable operation

  • Support maintenance planning and execution, including preventive and corrective maintenance, shutdowns, and equipment reliability initiatives

  • Lead field-level execution activities, including toolbox talks, coordination meetings, and day-to-day support of technicians and contractors

  • Support training, onboarding, and competency development of operators and technicians through hands-on coaching in the field and control room

  • Contribute to the development of operating procedures, maintenance practices, and continuous improvement initiatives as the plant is established and optimized

  • Maintain strong safety leadership by ensuring compliance with procedures, permits, isolations, and regulatory requirements, and actively participate in incident investigations

  • Step into operational support roles as needed to maintain continuity of operations

What We’re Looking For

Required Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience in cement manufacturing with deep operational experience in cement plant environments

  • 10+ years of experience as a Millwright, Industrial Mechanic, or Mechanical Technician

  • Experience in cement plant commissioning, startup, stabilization, and ramp-up activities

  • Proven experience leading crews, supervising technicians, or coordinating frontline operations in a cement or heavy industrial plant

  • Strong mechanical aptitude with demonstrated experience troubleshooting cement plant equipment and systems (e.g., kilns, grinding systems)

  • Hands-on experience working in plant operations and maintenance within an operating cement facility

  • Ability to train and mentor operators and technicians in a field-based environment

  • Comfortable working in active plant environments, including both field and control room settings

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Vertical Roller Mills (VRMs), grinding circuits, and bulk material handling systems

  • Experience with DCS control systems and CMMS platforms used in industrial maintenance environments

  • Experience supporting planned shutdowns, outages, and contractor execution in cement plants

  • Experience with root cause analysis and continuous improvement in the cement manufacturing operations

Compensation: $110,000 - $130,000 / Year
