Research Ethics Coordinator

Help shape ethical, responsible, and impactful research at TMU. Are you passionate about advancing ethical, responsible, and people-centered research? As the Research Coordinator role, you will provide effective support of the University’s Research Ethics Boards (REBs) and Animal Care Committee (ACC) in the administration of all stages of the ethics review process.
Responsibilities include:
- Provide support to the Chairs, Director and Managers of the General and Health Sciences Research Ethics Boards (REB) and Animal Care Committees (ACC) in the processing of research ethics submissions through all stages of the review, in accordance with the regulations and guidelines governing human research participant and animal research protection.
- Lead key parts of the ethics review workflow, from screening protocols to issuing approvals for minimal-risk studies.
- Act as a lead hand in conducting administrative reviews to ensure compliance with applicable institutional policies, legislation, regulations, and guidelines.
- Guide and mentor Research Ethics Facilitators and other team members, ensuring clarity, consistency, and confidence across the team.
- Act as a key resource for researchers, students, research staff and external parties through one-on-one consultations and workshops.
- Help develop internal and external guidelines for the application of policy and inform the operations of the research ethics boards.
- Support decision-making by conducting policy scans, environmental scans, and literature reviews that keep TMU aligned with evolving national and international standards.
- Attend and present at conferences and workshops, including the Canadian Association of Research Ethics Board (CAREB) and ‘Public Responsibility in Medicine and Research (PRIMR).

Qualifications
To help us learn more about you, please provide a cover letter and resume describing how you meet the following required qualifications:
- Completion of a Master’s degree program in social sciences, health sciences, and/or humanities-oriented research.
- A minimum of three (3) years of experience in research ethics reviews processes within a research environment.
- Familiarity of the regulations and guidelines governing clinical research and research ethics (i.e., the protection of human research participants), including the Tri-Council Policy Statement, Health Canada regulations, International Conference on Harmonization (ICH) Good Clinical Practice guidelines, USA regulations (Food and Drug Association and the Office for Human Research Protections), PHIPA, and privacy legislation.
- Sound familiarity with university culture and context, including familiarity with the range of university disciplines and academic discourse; nature of university scholarly, research, and creative activities.
Equivalent experience or a combination of equivalent experience and education may be accepted in place of education.
