CSMC is shaping the future of advanced energy and aerospace technologies through

innovation in nuclear microreactors, quantum sensing, and deep-tech engineering. We’re

looking for a Nuclear Thermal-Hydraulics Engineer to join our growing team and

help us develop micro-modular reactors for space and other extreme environments.

About the Role

We are seeking a Nuclear Engineer specializing in thermal-hydraulics to support the design

and analysis of advanced reactor systems. The successful candidate will develop, implement,

and validate models to assess heat transfer, fluid flow, and system performance under steady-

state and transient conditions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform thermal-hydraulic and system-level analyses for reactor designs.
  • Develop models using codes such as RELAP5, TRACE, OpenFOAM, COMSOL, or ANSYS Fluent.
  • Analyze heat transfer, flow distribution, and two-phase flow phenomena.
  • Support safety and performance assessments through coupled neutronic-thermal simulations.
  • Evaluate coolant system design and decay heat removal capabilities.
  • Prepare technical reports and present analysis results to project teams and stakeholders.
  • Support the business development activities of the company including proposals, RFPs, regulatory applications, and other as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline.
  • 2+ years of relevant experience in thermal-hydraulics analysis (industry, research, or graduate work).
  • Demonstrated proficiency in one or more of the following: RELAP5, TRACE, OpenFOAM, ANSYS Fluent, COMSOL, or equivalent CFD/system codes.
  • Strong understanding of heat transfer, single- and two-phase flow, and reactor cooling systems.
  • Experience with Python, MATLAB, or similar scripting tools for post-processing and data automation.
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills, including strong writing skills.
  • Experience with CFD coupling, or multi-physics simulation.
  • Exposure to experimental validation or test loop design.
  • Prior experience with Aerospace or Military Grade engineering is a plus.

Why Join CSMC

  • The chance to help shape the future of energy, space, and defence in Canada
  • Exposure to cutting edge technologies, with mentorship from experienced founders and executives
  • A collaborative, mission-driven culture with a flat hierarchy and room for rapid growth
  • Equity participation in a high-growth startup

The successful candidate must be a highly motivated self starter, capable of working through complex issues to solve problems that are not off the shelf. They should be capable of moving through setbacks and finding ways to persevere. Exceptional excel, powerpoint and communication skills are essential.

Employment Eligibility

As a result, all CSMC positions require eligibility for federal security screening and export‑control compliance. These requirements are considered Bona Fide Occupational Requirements (BFORs) under applicable human‑rights legislation.

To be eligible for employment at CSMC, candidates must be able to meet ALL of the following criteria:

1. Current Legal Authorization to Work in Canada

  • Currently legally authorized to work in Canada
  • Able to maintain valid work authorization for the duration of employment

2. Government of Canada Security Screening

  • Able to obtain and maintain Reliability Status or higher
  • Able to provide at least 5 years of continuous, verifiable background history
  • Willing to undergo identity, employment, education, and criminal background checks

3. Foreign Influence & Foreign Affiliation Risk Assessment (FIRA)

CSMC works with controlled nuclear and defence technologies, and candidates must be eligible to undergo a Foreign Influence and Foreign Affiliation Risk Assessment, which may include review of:

  • Foreign citizenship(s)
  • Recent foreign residence
  • Immediate family ties abroad
  • Foreign financial, business, or government affiliations

4. Controlled Goods & ExportControl Eligibility

  • Eligible to access Controlled Goods under the Controlled Goods Program (CGP)
  • Eligible to access export‑controlled technical data under Canadian law
  • Willing to undergo additional screening if required

5. OnSite Requirement

  • Able to work on‑site as required for access to secure and controlled workspaces.

These requirements are regulatory in nature and are necessary to ensure compliance with federal law and the secure handling of sensitive technologies
