Location: Waterloo, ON (On‑site, 5 days/week)

The Canadian Strategic Missions Corporation (CSMC) is building Canada’s next generation of advanced energy and aerospace technologies, including nuclear microreactors, quantum sensing systems, and deep‑tech hardware for national‑scale missions.
About the Role
The Junior IT Support Specialist will support day‑to‑day IT operations across CSMC’s secure engineering environment. You will provide hands‑on support for
systems, software, hardware, networking, and Microsoft‑based enterprise tools, ensuring that employees can work effectively and securely.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving technical problems, supporting users, and working across a broad IT stack — from workstation setup to identity management to troubleshooting secure computing environments.
Key Responsibilities
Systems, Software & Microsoft Stack Support
- Provide first‑line support for Windows 10/11, Microsoft 365, Teams, SharePoint, and OneDrive
- Assist with Azure AD / Entra ID account setup, permissions, and access troubleshooting
- Support endpoint security tools, MFA, and identity management workflows
- Install, configure, and update software applications across engineering and corporate teams
Hardware & Infrastructure Support
- Set up and maintain laptops, desktops, monitors, peripherals, and secure workstations
- Troubleshoot hardware failures, connectivity issues, and device performance problems
- Support network basics: Wi‑Fi, Ethernet, VPN, printers, and conference room systems
- Maintain IT asset inventory, lifecycle tracking, and hardware documentation
Secure Workspace & Operational Support
- Support secure computing environments and access‑controlled workspaces
- Assist with device hardening, patching, and compliance requirements
- Coordinate with external IT vendors and managed service providers
- Document procedures, troubleshooting steps, and configuration standards
Qualifications
- 1–3 years of IT support experience in a professional environment
- Strong familiarity with Windows OS, Microsoft 365, Teams, and SharePoint
- Basic understanding of networking (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN)
- Experience troubleshooting hardware, software, and user access issues
- Strong customer service, communication, and problem‑solving skills
Preferred Skills
- Experience with Azure AD / Entra ID, Intune, or MDM tools
- Exposure to secure or regulated environments (nuclear, aerospace, defence, finance, etc.)
- Familiarity with endpoint security tools, MFA, and device compliance
- Experience supporting engineering teams or technical users

Employment Eligibility

To be eligible for employment at CSMC, candidates must be able to meet ALL of the following criteria:
Current Legal Authorization to Work in Canada
- Currently legally authorized to work in Canada
- Able to maintain valid work authorization for the duration of employment
Government of Canada Security Screening
- Able to obtain and maintain Reliability Status or higher
- Able to provide at least 5 years of continuous, verifiable background history
- Willing to undergo identity, employment, education, and criminal background checks
Foreign Influence & Foreign Affiliation Risk Assessment (FIRA)
CSMC works with controlled nuclear and defence technologies, and candidates must be eligible to undergo a Foreign Influence and Foreign Affiliation Risk Assessment, which may include review of:
- Foreign citizenship(s)
- Recent foreign residence
- Immediate family ties abroad
- Foreign financial, business, or government affiliations
Controlled Goods & Export‑Control Eligibility
- Eligible to access Controlled Goods under the Controlled Goods Program (CGP)
- Eligible to access export‑controlled technical data under Canadian law
- Willing to undergo additional screening if required
On‑Site Requirement
- Able to work on‑site as required for access to secure and controlled workspaces.
