Your role as Manager Software Development
As a Manager, Software Development, you will be shaping new software developments for organizations who want to offer Dialogue’s services to their members. Reporting directly to the Director, Software Development for Client Stream, you will lead your team in designing and developing seamless, high-quality mobile and web experiences, working closely with a Product Manager and User Experience Designer to bring intuitive solutions to life.
Within the Client Stream team, you will drive the development of complex workflows that seamlessly integrate the Member application and the Care Platform, directly improving the quality of life for millions—from the moment they gain access to Dialogue until their health concerns are resolved.
What you'll be doing
- Lead the development of robust, scalable, and secure systems that power applications to help provide virtual healthcare solutions, ensuring performance and reliability in production.
- Directly oversee a multidisciplinary team of 4–7 professionals, including Front-end , Back-end, DevSecOps, Data developers and analytics and QA. Additionally, provide strategic leadership and guidance to cross-functional contributors via dotted-line reporting
- Serve as the primary liaison between the development team and key client stakeholders to ensure seamless project delivery
- Support architectural direction and technical leadership for a high-performing scrum team, with a strong emphasis on system integration, and data modeling.
- Assign proper resources to translate complex product requirements into efficient, technical solutions that elevate the user experience, in close collaboration with product managers, designers, and clients.
- Mentor developers in best practices, including system design, observability, and testing strategies, while supporting their long-term growth through regular feedback.
- Break down strategic initiatives into well-scoped, achievable milestones — enabling iterative delivery without sacrificing technical quality.
- Champion cross-team collaboration and technical alignment, especially when your team is working in systems or repositories owned by other teams.
- Ensure the creation and review of technical design documents and participate in architecture discussions to influence platform direction and shared services.
- Proactively manage technical debt and advocate for sustainability initiatives, such as performance optimization and database hygiene, while maintaining velocity.
- While backend is your primary strength, you’ll oversee work across the stack (e.g., in React or React Native) when needed and support end-to-end thinking across all layers of the application.
- Design code branching and merging strategies to support business goals.
We'd love to hear from you if you have
- Extensive experience as a software developer with a strong focus on backend development, including APIs, databases, and distributed systems.
- Proven track record as a technical lead or engineering manager, with the ability to guide backend-heavy projects from design to deployment.
- Proficiency in Python, PostgreSQL, and AWS services — and a strong understanding of cloud-based architecture.
- Experience with infrastructure as code (e.g., Terraform), CI/CD practices, and observability tooling for backend systems.
- Familiarity with front-end technologies (e.g., React, React Native, Expo, or Node) and the ability to contribute meaningfully to full-stack development when needed.
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills — you build strong partnerships with product, design, and developers, and you represent the team effectively in cross-functional settings.
- Experience mentoring developers and supporting their growth through thoughtful feedback and career development.
- Bonus: experience working directly with external clients or partners, aligning technical work with business objectives.
- A degree in Computer Science or a related field is an asset
