The Role

We're seeking a strategic and execution-oriented Senior Manager of Finance & Operations to lead our Finance and Operations team and serve as a key partner to our leadership team. This role will own the full spectrum of finance and operational functions—building the infrastructure and systems that enable sustainable growth.

As the Senior Manager of Finance & Operations, you'll be the architect of our operational excellence: translating raw data into actionable insights, building scalable processes, and ensuring we allocate resources strategically as we balance burn rate against growth ambitions. While the role currently balances finance and operations, it will naturally evolve to become more finance-focused as the company grows and operational processes mature. This is a high-impact role for someone who embraces ambiguity, thrives in dynamic environments and wants to shape the foundation of a growing technology company.

What You'll Do

Strategic Finance & Cash Flow Management

  • Manage daily cash flow and maintain a 12-month rolling cash forecast, delivering monthly cash position updates with actionable recommendations
  • Manage and coordinate relationships with external financial institutions and accounting firms to ensure secure, compliant asset management
  • Maintain the capitalization table and equity administration to support fundraising readiness
  • Review financial terms in customer contracts (MSAs) prior to signature, ensuring alignment with pricing, margins, and revenue recognition policies
  • Support the executive team during fundraising activities by preparing financial materials and managing due diligence data rooms

Financial Planning & Analysis

  • Own, maintain, and actively update the company’s financial model, including SaaS metrics (ARR, MRR, churn, CAC) and headcount planning
  • Build and manage cross-functional budgets and resource plans in partnership with department leaders; advise executives on burn vs. growth trade-offs
  • Analyze forecast vs. actual performance and deliver clear, executive-ready insights and recommendations
  • Lead the annual budgeting process and quarterly reviews, tracking spend and enforcing cost controls

Accounting Operations & Compliance

  • Manage end-to-end payroll processing, ensuring accuracy across compensation and benefits deductions
  • Manage accounting for revenue, deferred revenue, and revenue accrual
  • Oversee and review month-end accounting close (prepaids, fixed assets, accrued liabilities, monthly financial statement preparation, variance analysis), with executional support from our fractional bookkeeping team
  • Process monthly accounts payable ensuring timely and accurate vendor payments
  • Manage quarterly tax compliance (HST, EHT-annual) and lead execution of year-end filings, including corporate tax returns and SR&ED claims, in collaboration with external accounting firms
  • Manage quarterly government claim prep and any other ad-hoc government claims/forms, including reporting and audits, with executional support from the People & Operations Associate

Business Operations

  • Oversee hiring and recruitment processes, including talent acquisition and compensation planning, with day-to-day execution led by the People & Operations Associate
  • Lead performance management processes, including merit cycles and role changes, with day-to-day execution led by the People & Operations Associate
  • Oversee HR operations to ensure HRIS systems, employment contracts, and employee records remain accurate and compliant, with day-to-day execution led by the People & Operations Associate
  • Oversee employee relations, professional development initiatives, and HR policy compliance with day-to-day execution led by the People & Operations Associate
  • Manage annual business insurance policies, including renewals, audits, and coverage reviews to ensure appropriate risk protection and compliance
  • Partner with department leaders on vendor procurement, contract negotiations, and renewals to optimize cost and compliance
  • Oversee and support office operations and culture initiatives, including events and team-building, with day-to-day execution led by the People & Operations Associate
  • Oversee equipment management, asset tracking, and third-party software usage meet privacy, security, and compliance standards, with day-to-day execution led by the People & Operations Associate
  • Identify, implement, and operate scalable finance systems and AI-enabled tools to automate workflows, reduce manual effort, and improve operational efficiency

Skills

  • Strong experience in financial planning and analysis, including budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, cash flow management, and SaaS metrics (ARR, MRR, churn, CAC, LTV)
  • Strong knowledge of accounting operations, including month-end close, payroll, audit readiness, and tax and government programs (e.g., SR&ED, grants)
  • Experience managing external partners, including financial institutions, accounting firms, and vendors
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage senior leaders and translate financial and operational data into actionable insights
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and Google Sheets, with experience using accounting, HRIS/payroll, and financial planning systems
  • Highly organized and operationally focused, with a strong process orientation and exceptional attention to detail.
  • Strong collaboration and relationship-building skills
  • Experience leveraging AI-enabled tools to automate workflows and improve productivity
  • Experience in a SaaS, high-growth technology company, or startup is an asset but not required

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
  • 7–9 years of experience in finance or combined finance and operational role
  • Canadian professional designations such as CPA (Canada), CFA or an MBA an asset but not required

The salary range for this role is $100,000 to $150,000. At DNAstack, we are dedicated to providing pay transparency to all candidates.
