Opportunitye‑Zinc is seeking an experienced and talented Mechanical Engineer to join the Product Development team. Position Scope and ResponsibilitiesDesign & Analysis- Lead mechanical design of battery cells and packs, including enclosures, interconnects, and structural components- Design external enclosures for DC-BESS units, covering component placement, fixing and racking strategy, fluid and electrical routing, and IP compliance- Create detailed 3D models, engineering drawings, and BOMs in SolidWorks- Conduct tolerance stack-ups and FEA to validate design integrity and performance- Select and qualify materials and components against thermal, structural, environmental, and regulatory requirementsCross-Functional Integration- Collaborate with electrical, controls, electrochemical, and manufacturing teams to ensure designs meet functional, integration, and DFM requirements- Lead discussions with external vendors and fabricators for custom component designs and assemblies- Drive engineering sample assembly and participate in hands-on functional testingEngineering Process- Lead and contribute to design reviews, DFMEA, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives- Drive development of test fixtures, jigs, and assembly processes to support pack and BESS validation- Support safety and compliance testing to applicable regulatory standards (UL, IEC, CE)- Champion the full engineering cycle through integration of internal, field, and commercial feedback QualificationsRequired:- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline- 5+ years of mechanical design experience in energy storage, automotive, robotics, or industrial systems- Registered with Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO), or eligible for registration is an asset- Demonstrated expertise in mechanical system design for high-power devices, thermal management, or structural analysis- Proficiency in SolidWorks, PDM and simulation tools (ANSYS, CFX, or equivalent)- Hands-on experience with prototyping, testing, and working with external vendors and fabricators- Strong working knowledge of DFM/DFA, GD&T, and materials selection for mechanical systems- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary environmentAdditional Assets:- Experience in battery, fuel cell, or energy storage system design and packaging- Familiarity with regulatory standards relevant to energy storage (UL 9540, IEC 62619, CE marking)- Background in electrochemical device packaging or fluid-handling mechanical systems How we work (values in action)- Safety: You prioritize safety in everything you do and understand the deep responsibility we have to our people, our customers, and our planet.- Truth: You are honest, transparent, and authentic—with yourself, your teammates, and our customers.- Results: You approach challenges with curiosity and creativity, troubleshoot thoughtfully, and focus on delivering meaningful outcomes.- Team: You contribute to an open and trusting workplace, empower others, and hold yourself and your teammates accountable.- Mastery: You are committed to building domain expertise, bring a strong work ethic, and continuously invest in your own growth and improvement.- Value: You act responsibly with time, financial resources, and effort, always aiming to create the greatest impact and long-term value. Compensation & Total RewardsThe expected annual salary range for this role is $80,000–$100,000.
