Opportunitye‑Zinc is searching for an experienced and talented Senior Scientist, Electrolyte Development to work within the Technology function on the development, formation, and characterization of advanced electrolytes for e‑Zinc’s technology. You will drive electrolyte innovation; scale formulations from lab to production; and collaborate with teams across electrode development, product engineering, and manufacturing. Reports to the VP, Research & Development. Position Scope and Responsibilities- Lead and own technical deliverables for cross‑functional R&D projects focused on electrolyte development and characterization (TRL 1 to ~4)- Identify and characterize mechanisms regarding electrolyte formulation and operation within the e‑Zinc battery- Develop simulations to gain mechanistic insights into battery dynamics, predict performance, and support experimental findings- Serve as the subject matter expert on electrolyte chemistry and fundamentals- Propose and develop concepts to address technical issues and meet performance targets- Plan and execute experimental work on electrochemical, chemical and physical characterization of electrolytes, including benchtop and prototype testing- Predict and characterize electrolyte behaviour under various conditions using thermodynamics and kinetics- Partner with external collaborators to advance the technology and understanding- Work with partners to translate lab‑scale formulations to production- Perform data analysis on test results and communicate results via presentations and reports- Document results and analysis in written technical reports- Collaborate across functions to progress the technology and its integration into the product- Work in cross‑functional teams to solve technical issues and support development in areas such as electrodes and advanced cell- Contribute to e‑Zinc’s IP portfolio through patent applications and trade secrets- Mentor other staff; foster a high‑performing, solution‑oriented culture- Maintain a safe work environment for yourself and others QualificationsRequired:- Minimum of a Master’s degree in chemistry, materials science or related field plus 7+ years of industrial work experience in relevant fields- Proven experience developing commercially viable battery electrolytes (e.g., zinc or lithium battery electrolytes)- Expert‑level understanding and experience in electrochemistry, reaction kinetics, and thermodynamics- Advanced knowledge and experience in simulation software (COMSOL)- In‑depth knowledge of characterization methods for electrolytes and electrodes for electrochemical energy storage devices- Strong data analysis skills and ability to interpret complex chemical and electrochemical data- Excellent time management, communication, and organizational skills- Self‑starter and adaptive learner; motivated to thrive in a start‑up environment- Must be legally eligible to work in CanadaAdditional Assets:- Experience in aqueous zinc electrochemistry (strong asset)- PhD focused on electrochemical energy storage or fuel cell systems How we work (values in action)Safety; Truth; Results; Team; Mastery; Value Why Join e‑Zinc?At e‑Zinc, your work has purpose. Compensation & Total RewardsThe expected annual salary range for this role is $105,000–$125,000.
