Highlights include: Global Cleantech 100 (2022–2025), $1M Impact Canada Charging the Future Challenge winner, $1.6M Breakthrough Energy Solutions Canada grant, over $12M from SDTC, and a USD $1.3M grant from the California Energy Commission.Opportunity: e-Zinc is searching for a Senior Scientist, Electrolyte Development to develop, form, and characterize advanced electrolytes; scale formulations from lab to production; and collaborate across electrodes, product engineering, and manufacturing. Reports to the VP, Research & Development.Position Scope and Responsibilities- Lead technical deliverables for cross-functional R&D projects on electrolyte development and characterization (TRL 1–~4)- Identify and characterize mechanisms related to electrolyte formulation and operation in the e-Zinc battery- Develop simulations to gain mechanistic insights, predict performance, and support experiments- Serve as subject matter expert on electrolyte chemistry and fundamentals- Propose and develop concepts to meet performance targets based on scientific principles- Plan and execute experimental work on electrochemical, chemical, and physical characterization (benchtop and prototype)- Predict and characterize electrolyte behavior using thermodynamics and kinetics- Partner with external collaborators; translate lab-scale formulations to production- Analyze test results, document findings, and communicate via presentations and reports- Collaborate cross-functionally to integrate technology into product; support electrodes/advanced cell development- Contribute to IP through patent applications and trade secrets; mentor staff; maintain a safe work environmentQualifications (Required)- Minimum of a Master’s degree in chemistry, materials science, or related field plus 7+ years of industrial experience- Proven experience developing commercially viable battery electrolytes (e.g., zinc or lithium)- Expert-level understanding in electrochemistry, reaction kinetics, and thermodynamics- Advanced simulation experience (COMSOL)- In-depth knowledge of characterization methods for electrolytes and electrodes- Strong data analysis, time management, communication, and organizational skills- Self-starter, adaptive learner; must be legally eligible to work in CanadaAssets: Experience in aqueous zinc electrochemistry; PhD focused on electrochemical energy storage or fuel cell systems.Compensation & Total Rewards: Expected annual salary range: $105,000–$125,000.
