Hi, we are ecobee.

ecobee introduced the world’s first smart Wi-Fi thermostat to help millions of consumers save money, conserve energy, and bring home automation into their lives. That was just the beginning. We continue our pursuit to create technology that brings peace of mind into the home and allows people to focus on the moments that matter most. We take pride in making a meaningful difference to the environment, all while being part of the exciting, connected home revolution.

In 2021, ecobee became a subsidiary of Generac Power Systems. Generac introduced the first affordable backup generator and later created the category of automatic home standby generator. The company is committed to sustainable, cleaner energy products poised to revolutionize the 21st century electrical grid. Together, we take pride in making a meaningful difference to the environment.

Why we love to do what we do:

We’re helping build the world of tomorrow with solutions that improve everyday life while making a positive impact on the planet. Our products and services work in harmony to provide comfort, efficiency, and peace of mind for millions of homes and businesses. While we’re proud of what we’ve done so far, there’s still a lot we can do—and you can be part of it.

Join our extraordinary team.

We're a rapidly growing global tech company headquartered in Canada, in the heart of downtown Toronto, with a satellite office in Leeds, UK (and remote ecopeeps in the US). We get to work with some of North America and UK's leading professionals. Our colleagues are proud to bring their authentic selves to work, confident that what we do is grounded in a greater purpose. We’re always looking for curious, talented, and passionate people to join our team.

Who’ll You Be Joining:

The Product Design team is comprised of a group of system thinkers who have deep empathy for our customers. We ensure that each touchpoint of the customer journey is carefully crafted to provide a useful, usable, and delightful experience. This includes ensuring cohesion across marketing, industrial design and interfaces, voice prompts, mobile apps, and website experiences. We care about the people we work with. This means we trust each other, are generous with feedback, and prioritize data and research over individual opinions.

As a product design manager, you are a team leader, design evangelist, and thoughtful mentor with comprehensive industry knowledge and design sensibility. You will manage a group of talented product designers and lead the design process and strategy.

The product design team at ecobee is multi-disciplinary – we work with product managers, engineers, researchers, content designers, marketing and more. You will collaborate with leaders of other disciplines to guide team members to design delightful end-to-end user experiences at every touch point. You will be the part of business aspects of the products and constantly advocate for the customers and their experiences in cross-functional settings.

As a people manager, you are responsible for helping others learn and grow. You will work closely with each member to help them realize their full potential and unique career path. You will support the team members, grow their design skills as well as soft skills and leadership.

As a design leader, you will lead the design strategy of the service products, which focuses on growing the business of our subscription services and B2B services. This is a unique opportunity for someone who loves using data to experiment with bold ideas and help the team iterate design to drive business outcomes. You will help product teams create and optimize a sustainable experience that grows and retains long-term engaged users.

How You’ll Make an Impact:

  • Lead design critiques, team retrospectives, team learning initiatives, management reviews, quarterly planning, and engagement survey discussions.

What You’ll Bring to the Table:

  • You have a bachelor’s degree in Design or equivalent degree or work experience.
  • You have 5-8+ years of experience working as a product designer or a similar role
  • You have more than 2 years’ experience leading and growing successful design teams.
  • You have mentored less experienced team members through constructive criticism and empathy
  • You have proven experience fostering strong relationships with cross-functional agile teams. You can effectively guide designers to communicate and negotiate with other cross-functional members.
  • You advocate using data and evidence in iterative decision making. You can support designers to partner with research to design and run experiments; take findings, iterate, and improve on designs through evaluative and generative research.
