About the role:

erthos is seeking a Strategic Finance Associate who will be an integral member of our finance team. The Strategic Finance Associate will be the #2 in our finance division as we prepare to scale and report directly to the Head of Finance. You will have a huge impact right away, being an essential part of numerous key activities such as financial planning and strategic forecasting, helping prepare specialized reports for future fundraising activities and analyzing trends/providing key highlights to executives/our board. In this position, you will also ensure that all accounting and finance operations run smoothly.

The candidate will be responsible for day-to-day operations, including month-end processes, performing reconciliations, full cycle accounting, and more. Our ideal candidate is a self-motivated individual who is highly organized, takes the initiative, and thrives in an energetic, start-up work environment. This position is a hybrid role, with the expectation of being in our Mississauga HQ approximately 3 times per week.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, invoicing, bank/credit reconciliations and general ledger accounting
  • Participate in special fundraising initiatives, ERP enhancements/implementations, internal controls, government grant reporting/applications, and ad hoc analyses
  • Play a key role in the month-end financial statement close process by preparing account reconciliations, recording journal entries, and working with various business partners to acquire relevant information
  • Work with the Head of Finance on quarterly Board financial packages
  • Assist with the preparation of year-end audits and financial statements
  • Ensure tax compliance with local authorities and work with external accountants for corporate tax preparation
  • Prepare month-end financial package analysis and provide key highlights to executives
  • Work with the Head of Finance and business partners to improve monitoring and tracking of operating expenses and advise on accounting policies
  • Assist with financial planning and budget process, including working cross functionally with different budget owners

About you:

  • CPA required
  • 4+ years of relevant accounting experience
  • Experience with Quickbooks an asset
  • Extremely strong Excel skills required
  • High standards of ethics and confidentiality to handle sensitive information
