Job Purpose
The Analyst supports FACIT’s commercialization, operational and investment activities by facilitating the assessment of life sciences and oncology technologies and organization or management of project milestones. They will also support various reports, presentations and initiatives within FACIT and ensure prompt, complete and high-quality delivery of results.
The Analyst reports to the Manager, Commercialization and may provide support to and communicate with other FACIT team members. They may also liaise with various OICR programs to expedite analyses. They are responsible for ensuring the appropriate planning, analyses and deliverables for said activities and that initiatives are well-defined, communicated and executed to achieve FACIT’s business and technical objectives.
Overall, the Analyst has strong business acumen and is detail-oriented, entrepreneurial and flexible. Further, they provide an innovative approach to analyses, diligence and execution with passion, integrity and a positive attitude, while being mission-driven and self-directed.
Duties and responsibilities
ANALYSES & INVESTMENT DILIGENCE.
Oversee select elements required to assess potential investment opportunities and/or strategic initiatives that may include but are not limited to:
- Conduct literature reviews of biological target(s) and/or technologies in cancer and generate reports summarizing the related mechanisms, cancer and tumour types, and pathways;
- Research and generate market analyses on said target(s)/technologies, including market sizes, trends, regulatory needs, opportunities and risks, etc.;
- Leverage FACIT’s market research resources to generate models or templates for competitive analysis – e.g. oncology companies or technologies at various development stages or in specific disease indications, transactional comparisons;
- Provide analytical support to generate investment valuations;
- Develop and report on investment theses based on diligence activities, and present recommendations to Manager and other key stakeholders;
- Identify potential opportunities for new intellectual property to be developed;
- Perform cross-functional and/or other duties consistent with the job classification, as assigned or requested.
EXECUTION AND IMPLEMENTATION.
Execute on defined strategies that build and enhance the commercialization culture and innovation ecosystem within Ontario including:
- Provide support for the development, design, delivery and implementation of projects and efforts to advance the mission and vision of FACIT in alignment with the strategic goals of FACIT, OICR and the Province of Ontario;
- Implement and support internal projects designed to improve efficiencies within the FACIT team and support the promotion of an entrepreneurial spirit.
COMMUNICATION.
Prepare and present (written and oral) summaries to internal and external stakeholders including:
- Synthesize and distill large volumes of information gained during diligence, investment and/or team meetings into cohesive summaries to help for planning of next steps;
- Clear articulation of diligence progress and key considerations and risks needed for decision making;
- Draft communication materials for email, social media, and networking events to develop and strengthen engagement of external partners with FACIT.
SPECIAL PROJECTS.
Execute on special projects sanctioned within the FACIT team. Projects may be specific to FACIT or may be components of cross-institute initiatives involving various stakeholders.

REQUIREMENTS.
BSc and/or MSc in Biological/Health Sciences or a related field is required. Currently pursuing an MBA and/or related graduate degree is an asset and strongly preferred. At least six months of practical and related experience and/or at least six months of on-the-job training in the life sciences/healthcare industry is required. Familiarity with commercialization and business management fundamentals is desirable. Other experience includes:
- Demonstrable ability to understand a wide breadth of underlying technological innovations including, but not limited to, therapeutics, diagnostics, medical technologies, AI/software;
- Relevant market analysis, equity research and/or project management experience in the life sciences industry is strongly preferred;
- Experience in generating qualitative (descriptive) and quantitative models is preferred;
- Experience in assessing and generating investment analyses, theses, reviews and related reports is an asset;
- Experience with project planning and implementation is preferred;
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suite applications, primarily Excel and PowerPoint, is required.
Experience and understanding of the challenges associated with managing multi-institution collaborations is an asset. Must be comfortable working with internal and external team members, including scientific investigators, and commercial teams to progress projects, and have a collaborative mindset while being a strong team player. Excellent written, organizational and communication skills are crucial.
Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and commitment to corporate mission with flexibility and an ability to multitask are essential. Must be able to work within a fast-moving environment and exhibit professional maturity, confidence and competence.
