This range represents the base salary we reasonably expect to pay for this position at the time of posting.
Compensation for this role is determined based on several factors, including relevant experience, skills, geographic location, budget and company pay rates.

Working in the Editorial department, the Managing Editor plays a critical role in supporting Formedics’ mission and business objectives by overseeing the daily operations, content strategy, and audience growth of two established brands, Nephrology Times and Pulmonology Today. This position requires strong judgment, cross-functional collaboration, and a high level of ownership, with the potential to take on direct reports as the role grows.
This role is well-suited for an individual who thrives in a fast-paced editorial environment, has strong news judgment and command of AP or AMA style, communicates effectively with internal teams and external physician contributors, and is motivated by producing high-quality content that resonates with a physician and healthcare professional (HCP) audience.
Key responsibilities
- Own the content planning and production of Nephrology Times and Pulmonology Today digital and print initiatives, including website, social media, e-newsletters, and print materials.
- Produce and edit content across text, video, and audio formats that engages a physician and healthcare professional (HCP) audience, ensuring all deliverables meet the specifications of sold client projects.
- Recruit and manage a network of physician contributors and freelance editors, assigning content and ensuring timely delivery of products that meet department standards.
- Partner with internal Projects, Sales, and Production teams to satisfy sponsored content campaigns while maintaining editorial integrity.
- Manage the editorial review process across products, including e-mail newsletters, ensuring all input and feedback is appropriately addressed.
- Represent the publications in person and virtually at major industry meetings, conferences, and sponsored live events (approximately 15–25% travel, or 4–6 trips per year), directing on-site and remote news coverage and building relationships with key opinion leaders (KOLs).
- Partner with the Senior Managing Editor, Medicine, to develop a strategic vision for the brands, aligning editorial strategy with company goals and audience needs.
- Manage the publications’ editorial budget, delivering required content within budget and forecasting spend during budget reviews.
- Audit brand platforms regularly to identify performance trends, content gaps, and opportunities for process improvement.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior editors, supporting their professional development.

- Client campaigns and sold projects are delivered on time and within budget, without compromising editorial integrity

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, or English preferred; a degree in Medicine, Public Health, or a science-related field is also considered, particularly for technical medical news
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in medical journalism, editing, or publishing (5–7 years preferred)
- Experience managing an editorial team with direct reports
- Strong writing and editing skills, with AP style, AMA style, or scientific writing preferred
- Understanding of medical and scientific terminology, with the ability to interpret and summarize complex medical studies
- Strong fact-checking and research skills to ensure accuracy in reporting
- Knowledge of SEO and digital publishing best practices
- Familiarity with peer-reviewed journals and regulatory agencies (e.g., FDA, WHO, CDC)
- Multimedia and social media skills
