About Forcen

ForceN is surpassing human manipulation through scalable force-torque sensing hardware, improving surgical precision and enabling the next generation of robotic sensing technology. ForceN designs and manufactures high-reliability, high-precision systems; leveraging a proprietary digitally-manufactured transducer film that can be wrapped around any surgical or robotic component to create a 'digital sense of touch'. ForceN's technology enables robotics and physical AI companies to tackle complex robotic interaction and manipulation problems.

Our customers are world leaders in surgical, logistics, and frontier robotics. We accelerate our customers' development in robotics manipulation. We excel at providing a robust, reliable, and scalable solution with industry-leading development and deployment time.

Job Description

Forcen designs rigid and flexible printed circuit boards (PCB) in-house with a strong focus on modularity, manufacturing, and assembly. With the increasing demand for Forcen's sensing systems, the software, electrical, and firmware (SEF) team is looking to bring onboard talented Electrical Designers with a portfolio of past PCB design experience to join the team.

We are currently looking to fill two positions on our team: one requiring 1 to 2+ years of experience, and another requiring 3 to 5+ years of experience. While there is overlap between these roles, their primary day-to-day focuses will differ:

  1. One position will involve faster-paced development, focusing on using existing architecture to target and deliver on specific customer and internal projects.
  2. The other position will involve longer-term development, evolving from verification, validation, and system development for our mature projects.

Importantly, both positions will have opportunities to collaborate and work on core architecture pieces and interact with key industrial partners.

Expected start date: May-August 2026

Responsibilities

Being an Electrical Designer within the SEF team, your day-to-day tasks will include the following:

  • Design rigid and flexible PCBs in Altium for prototype and production projects, ensuring all gate processes are fulfilled before releasing for manufacturing.
  • Generate necessary documents for rigid, flex and rigid-flex PCBA fabrication and carry out the purchasing process.
  • Validate new PCBA designs, including board bring-up and debugging.
  • Coordinate with suppliers to manufacture PCBAs following project schedules, implement new core products, and support automated testing capabilities.
  • Evaluate and explore manufacturing methodologies from a variety of suppliers, including manufacturing validation and FOA batch conformance checks/inspection.
  • Support new electrical architecture verification, validation, and characterization testing efforts.
  • Create and execute new development test plans to directly compare the performance of different technologies, including key certification-level testing (i.e., EMI, ESD).
  • Support the design and automation of PCB test fixtures for functional testing, including script development in Python when necessary.
  • Investigate new technology improvements; specifically owning the power electronics portion of our electrical architecture.
  • Communicate with cross-functional teams (Mechanical, Manufacturing, and Product) to ensure design requirements are well-defined and properly met.
  • Communicate and provide feedback to key customer system integration efforts.
  • Execute data analysis and present results in a clear and concise manner.

Qualifications

The SEF team is full of passionate members that enjoy and love what they do. We are looking for a talented candidate that likes to take on a challenge and excels at finding solutions with an initiative to learn along the way, to grow together as a team!

  • Electrical Engineering degree, portfolio of PCB design experience, or equivalent.
  • Experience Level: We are actively seeking candidates for two openings: one requiring 1 to 2+ years of experience, and another requiring 3 to 5+ years of experience.
  • Schematic capture and PCB layout; experience including multi-layer, high-density (HDI), differential routing, analog, and EMI/EMC conscious designs is a plus. Altium Designer experience highly preferred.
  • PCBA debugging experience for analog circuitry and/or industrial peripherals (e.g., USB, Ethernet, CAN, SPI, etc.) including the use of electrical equipment such as DMM and Oscilloscopes.
  • Soldering and hot air reflow experience (BGA, QFN, 0201 components preferred).
  • Ability to follow the design process and accurately track assigned tasks (Jira preferred), as well as identifying gaps or areas of improvement and articulating them effectively to the team.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to document the design process and articulate design decisions effectively.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality outputs.
  • Adequate Python programming experience.
  • Appreciation for how firmware and software interact with the hardware.

Bonus / "Nice-to-Have" Qualifications:

  • Experience designing and validating power electronics is a plus.
  • Knowledge of common and unique PCBA manufacturing processes/methodologies is a huge plus.
  • Familiarity with Python for data analysis, automation, and test development is a huge plus.
  • Familiarity with Altium 365 and component library management is a huge plus.
  • Familiarity with PLM systems such as Arena is a plus.
  • Familiarity designing and working in an ISO 9001 and 13485 certified company is a plus.
