Position Description
We are seeking a highly motivated Bioinformatician in the Department of Research and Development. The successful candidate will focus on the analysis of large NGS datasets with in-depth knowledge of data-handling and sufficient knowledge of cancer genomics. This position will provide ample opportunities for professional development and the acquisition of cutting-edge skills in basic and translational cancer genomics research, research planning and strategy, and data analysis and interpretation.
Responsibilities include:
- Applies bioinformatics methods to process cancer NGS data;
- Conducts various statistical analyses to discover relationships between genetic alterations and clinical outcomes;
- Records all analysis steps in an accurate, timely and clearly presented manner, and use this to prepare data summaries and reports as and when required;
- Optimized bioinformatic analysis pipelines;
- Performs literature reviews, prepares data visualization, and drafts scientific publications;
- Prepares conference abstracts, posters and presentations;
- Other duties as assigned.
Position requirements
- PhD or M.Sc degree with over 3 years of experience in bioinformatics, computational biology, molecular biology or a related discipline required;
- Strong background with unix/linux tools and at least two years coding experience with PERL, PYTHON or related data analysis languages;
- Solid understanding of statistics, expertise in R and Bioconductor;
- Exposure to NGS data is mandatory with knowledge of NGS platforms, datatype (FASTQ, BAM, VCF, MAF) and analysis tools;
- Experience in the analysis of large “omics” data sets (e.g. RNA-seq, whole genome/exome sequencing) and clinical NGS data sets is an asset;
- Experience in working with test-driven programming and version control is an asset;
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
