What You’ll Do
- Drive the execution of the platform architecture across all software domains, in close collaboration with the Platform Architect, who leads the overall architectural direction, decisions, and cross-team alignment.
- Lead a growing software team day to day: ensure strategy priorities, dispatch work, run reviews, mentor, and keep the bar high without making it invisible.
- Implement an employee performance framework, monitor it, and guide employees to reach their goals successfully.
- Get actively involved in code implementation and champion best coding practices.
- Develop responsible AI-augmented workflows into how the team ships.
- Lead and document architecture decisions and cross-team commitments.
- Ensure platform code is fast and robust, holding it to a standard that the layers built on top of it and the developer ecosystem can trust.
- Own the health of the platform architecture, drivers, service layer, and transports.
- Own the quality bar for what the platform ships—the standard the rest of internal and external engineering expects.
- In the first 60 days, establish a quality, velocity, and predictability baseline and document the method.
- By month 6, hit a self-set target against that baseline, alongside standing up a working team cadence.
Must Have
- 7+ years in software engineering, with meaningful time in systems or platform-level work, not just application code.
- 3+ years in a software engineering management role.
- Strong C++ or Rust experience on production systems; cross-platform fluency across Windows and Linux (macOS a plus).
- USB communication experience; familiarity with WebSocket, serial, or TCP/UDP transports.
- Disciplined approach to testing, documentation, and version compatibility.
- Bilingual French/English.
- Experience leading or coordinating a growing team: dispatching work, running reviews, and mentoring.
- Hands-on coding ability; this isn’t a pure people-management role.
- Experience personally shipping complex cross-platform work, not just directing it.
Nice to have
- Rust experience for systems and host-side work, especially since HARP is Rust.
- Experience with plugin/extension architectures or runtime DLL loading.
- Real-time or high-frequency control loop experience.
- Exposure to robotics, haptics, or teleoperation.
