The Position
The Social Media Manager is a pivotal leadership role within Kids Help Phone, responsible for the strategic development and operational management of our social media presence across all major platforms. This is a hands-on role, delivering social strategy to effectively plan, produce, publish, engage and report.
Your responsibilities include content planning (mapping intake to various channels and audiences), content production (writing posts and creating visuals), publishing (ensuring the right content reaches the right audience at the right time), account management (both responsive community management and administrative management of accounts and subscriptions), and performance tracking (analyzing and optimizing content based on data).
This role also demands more than expertise in tactical execution – it requires strategic oversight, strong leadership, and the ability to align social media initiatives with the broader goals of the organization, including brand-building, fundraising, and service awareness. You will be a key player who will inform the development of agency-wide social strategy by bringing deep insights on KHP’s day-to-day user behaviour and platform-specific best practices to the table.

What You'll Do
- Develop and manage the strategic content for Kids Help Phone social channels, with a focus on audience growth, business objectives, and community engagement.
- Develop, maintain, update and oversee the execution of editorial content and calendars for all social platforms.
- Receive and research content opportunities and collaborate with key internal and external partners to lead the development of engaging co-branded content.
- Oversee community management and brand voice across platforms, ensuring consistency, sensitivity, and responsiveness, particularly in crisis or high-sensitivity scenarios.
- Ensure the operational execution of posts on KHP platforms (including Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, X/Twitter, Snap and TikTok) adapting content, timing, and moderation strategies to optimize engagement based on platform-specific insights.
- Manage the administrative aspects of social accounts, including subscriptions and reporting tools, ensuring that accounts are current and functional.
- Manage our relationships with external agencies and freelancers who may from time-to-time support production, community management and performance reporting.
- Track and analyze performance metrics across all platforms to identify trends, optimize content, and continuously improve results.
- Serve as the point of accountability for social media performance, reporting directly to the Executive Director of Strategic Storytelling & Communications on key metrics and platform optimization strategies.
- Take full ownership of major social media campaigns, support cause marketing activity from ideation to execution, and ensure authentic presence during key moments such as Pride, Indigenous History Month, and year-end fundraising campaigns.
- Act as a strategic partner to internal departments, external agencies, and collaborators to ensure cohesive and effective messaging across all platforms.
What You'll Need
- Minimum 5 years’ hands-on experience and a Bachelor's degree in marketing, communication, or a related field.
- A strong understanding of social media platforms and their audiences, as well as the latest trends and best practices for content creation, timing, and engagement, adapted to each platform.
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to craft clear, compelling messaging that aligns with brand values and mission.
- Experience creating video content for various social platforms.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 apps, such as Word and SharePoint, as well as visual editing tools such as Canva or Adobe Photoshop.
- Strong analytical skills with a minimum of 5 years’ experience tracking and reporting social media performance, adjusting strategy based on data-driven insights.
- Excellent multitasking, project management, and time-management skills in a fast-paced environment.
- A relationship-centric approach, with experience in non-profit, youth engagement, or post-secondary student services as an asset.
