Department Overview:

You will join a dynamic and collegial team of legal professionals in the TD Legal Department and be involved in a wide range of activities working to advance strategic priorities while ensuring proper risk management. The TD Wealth and Asset Management Legal Team provides strategic and practical legal advice to advance the objectives as well as the TD risk management requirements of the TD Wealth businesses, which include TD Asset Management Inc. (TDAM). This position will be primarily dedicated to supporting the TDAM business.

Job Description:

  • You will be involved in a wide range of legal asset management matters, supporting TDAM's institutional and retail businesses with a primary focus on retail.

This includes:

  • (i) advising on the launch and distribution of new retail mutual funds and ETF's as well as private pooled and alternative funds;

  • (ii) providing day-to-day legal support to TDAM, including drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial agreements and fund disclosure documentation,

  • (iii) providing legal and regulatory advice in relation to investment funds, portfolio management, and investment fund management services,

  • (iv) working on strategic initiatives, including global distribution projects,

  • (v) working with internal stakeholders and managing external counsel to achieve business objectives; and

  • (vi) providing advice on corporate governance and other regulatory matters.

Job Requirements:

  • Ideally 2+ years of experience in a top law firm and/or in-house position practicing securities law, with experience advising on fund offerings and investment management activities.

  • Experience providing legal support to asset management firms in relation to investment fund products would be an asset.

  • You are a critical thinker with excellent judgment who also has strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with multiple partners and stakeholders.

  • You have superior communication and analytical skills.

  • You can manage multiple deadlines and priorities without sacrificing focus and attention to detail.

  • You can also work collaboratively in a large legal team setting with other lawyers and TD Legal Department leaders.
