Job Description:

Role Overview

The Full Stack Architect (FSA) is a senior individual contributor responsible for shaping, governing, and advancing end‑to‑end technology solutions that align business needs with TD’s long‑term architectural vision.

This role partners closely with business stakeholders, engineers, designers, and risk partners to deliver scalable, resilient, and secure platforms that enhance customer experience while protecting the interests of the Bank.

Reporting to an Architecture Practice Lead / Practice Area Lead, this role operates with a high degree of autonomy and is assigned to complex, high‑profile, and/or high‑risk initiatives with significant enterprise impact.

Key Responsibilities

Customer & Solution Architecture

  • Demonstrate strong communication skills with the ability to understand business needs and translate them into practical, value‑driven architecture and technology solutions that advance TD’s long‑term architectural vision.

  • Apply multi‑disciplinary expertise across databases, applications, client tiers, software layering, and build/test/deploy strategies to design end‑to‑end solutions spanning applications, infrastructure, and middleware.

  • Elevate the focus on applications and data as key differentiators of customer experience, grounded in strong foundational infrastructure and platform capabilities.

  • Advise on the suitability of technology stacks and define architectural principles and key constraints for solution components, including security, scalability, and future‑state impact.

  • Drive continuous modernization by reducing technology debt and enabling resilient solutions across both server‑side and user‑side features as platforms and technologies evolve.

  • Lead code reviews and develop prototypes to assess the viability of architectural approaches and design decisions.

  • Monitor and report on delivery progress, collaborating broadly with designers, engineers, and business stakeholders to ensure solutions meet portfolio objectives.

Shareholder, Risk & Governance

  • Set service‑level objectives (SLOs) and exercise key decision rights aligned with the FSA role.

  • Design and evolve highly reliable, scalable architectural infrastructure supporting complex enterprise systems.

  • Establish observability standards to ensure production systems operate under known conditions, enabling proactive identification of risks, errors, or failures.

  • Lead engagement with governance and control partners (e.g., regulatory, operational risk, compliance, audit) to provide architectural subject‑matter expertise.

  • Lead or contribute to enterprise and cross‑functional initiatives, identifying risks and providing guidance in complex or high‑impact scenarios.

  • Ensure products, platforms, and projects comply with technology domain architecture standards and support ongoing architectural review processes.

  • Anticipate architectural gaps and emerging industry trends, recommending improvements that reduce risk and long‑term technology debt.

  • Map business processes and sub‑processes to technology solutions, bridging business challenges with architectural outcomes.

  • Protect the interests of TD by identifying, managing, and escalating non‑standard or high‑risk activities as required.

  • Maintain a strong culture of risk management and control aligned with TD’s risk appetite and regulatory expectations.

People, Collaboration & Culture

  • Participate fully as a collaborative team member, fostering a positive, inclusive environment that promotes innovation, quality, and accountability.

  • Provide thought leadership and industry expertise on engineering and architectural best practices.

  • Actively contribute to capability development within practices through mentorship, training, and knowledge sharing; may serve as a Chapter Lead where applicable.

  • Stay current on emerging technologies, engineering trends, and business domain knowledge.

  • Communicate clearly and consistently on project status, risks, and dependencies.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external partners to enable effective collaboration.

  • Champion diversity, equity, and inclusion while acting as a brand ambassador for TD internally and externally.

Breadth & Depth of Expertise

  • Extensive experience in data architecture with strong familiarity across data domain technologies.

  • Solid understanding of domestic and international payment systems and processing engines.

  • Deep expertise in MongoDB and NoSQL data technologies.

  • Strong understanding of event‑based architecture, Kafka, and microservices patterns.

  • Experience with public cloud ecosystems, with Microsoft Azure as a strong asset.

  • Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies including AKS, GDC, and GKE.

  • Proven track record working across architecture frameworks, enterprise platforms, tools, and development standards.

  • Exceptional collaboration, communication, and client‑facing skills.

  • Strategic, big‑picture thinker with the ability to anticipate architectural gaps and identify emerging trends.

  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously on complex, high‑risk initiatives with significant enterprise impact.
