Department Overview

TD Commercial National Accounts services the unique needs of public and private Canadian businesses, customizing a broad range of products. As part of the Commercial National Accounts team the Director, Credit Execution guides and supports a team of Associates and Associate Directors whose job is to assist with structuring credit proposals and analyzing the risks associated with lending facilities for new and existing business clients that borrow in excess of $ 25 million. The Director, Credit Execution is part of the senior management group for a business banking unit and reports directly to the AVP, Credit Management, Commercial National Accounts.

Job Description

In the role of Director, Credit Execution ("DCE"), you are principally responsible for managing the credit and operational risk for an industry-specific commercial / junior corporate loan portfolio. You are a subject matter expert and have the ability to analyze and understand complex credit proposals, including multi-lender situations. You can anticipate and assess the risks associated with entering into a lending relationship under a wide range of economic scenarios and ensure solicitor-prepared loan agreements are relevant, supportive and competitive for the bank and our clients on an ongoing basis. You will assess, analyze and perform due diligence in support of all applications, approving credits within delegated limits and making recommendations on all others. You will interface with TD's risk management group on a regular basis to ensure that your understanding of the Bank's risk models and pricing platforms allows you to effectively interpret and apply policy. Recognizing that your credibility and influence with them is based on the credit proposals that are well-crafted and presented by your team, you make the development of your Associates' and Associate Directors' risk evaluation skills your primary priority. Thus, you will establish yourself as a trusted business leader who is sought after for guidance regarding matters relating to the credit facilities that are supporting the clients’ business strategy. You support your Unit’s efforts to meet their business development targets by recommending credit packaging alternatives and actively discuss credit solutions with internal TD partners, external professional advisors, and other lenders as appropriate. You feel comfortable in a team based business environment where you are expected to balance risk management objectives with our ongoing business building targets.

Job Requirements

Education/Accreditations:
Undergraduate/Graduate degree in business or relevant professional designation.


Other Qualifications/Skills/Experience:


Successful DCEs have the proven ability to understand the economic and industry specific circumstances that will impact the long term viability of their clients, leveraging them to structure solid credit solutions. Through their coaching expertise and experience as a mentor, they effectively impart their experience on a team of Associates and Associate Directors, developing these individuals to be better equipped to structure credit proposals and evaluate business risks. In addition to your undergraduate/graduate degree in business or relevant professional designation, you will ideally have proven your suitability for this role with at least 5 years experience in a combination, and / or Manager Commercial Credit roles in a banking environment. You have well developed analytical, relationship management, credit structuring, coaching, and negotiation skills, and have a personal goal to expand them further in this role. Your passion for enhancing the customer experience guarantees that we provide credit solutions that serve the best interests of both the bank and our client.
