Depth & Scope:
- Leading authority on data engineering concepts, principals, practices and standards
- Thought leader on IT risk-based approaches to data engineering and on other domains in technology control / information security fields
- Sets the direction and oversees the work of other Data Engineering professionals on complex, highly-visible projects of significant profile, strategic importance, and enterprise impact to the bank
- Establishes and leads Data engineering working groups to achieve goals that impact multiple Journeys and Platform
- Provides consultative and strategic guidance to executive leadership
- Engineering specialist assigned to work autonomously on high profile, complex and high-risk technology initiatives with significant impact to the organization
- Has a blend of skills in data engineering, data management, architecture, solutions architecture, application security and coding
- Primarily works at the enterprise level
- Typically reports to the data engineering practice owner
Education & Experience:
- University or Graduate / post graduate degree in Data Management or related Computer Science or Engineering discipline; or equivalent practical experience
- 15+ years of relevant experience in field of specialization
Customer Accountabilities:
- Responsible for advancing data engineering practices through processes and tools, setting development and design standards at business unit and/or enterprise level
- Executes on Data Engineering strategy as it relates to the introduction of tools, automation and better delivery processes, robust design practices, adoption of new and better paradigms across Application, Platform and Infrastructure
- Leads the creation of solution options and ultimately a comprehensive end-to-end solution and coordinates relevant stakeholders, as required to support development initiatives; following a (build it, break it, fix it mentality)
- Responsible for developing and documenting detailed solution design and acts as an application SME through the design and development lifecycle ensuring alignment with Architecture
- Accountable for complex applications/ systems development, programming / coding
- Develops functional, technical and user interface designs for an application / system that meets the defined requirements (business, enterprise architecture direction, system performance and development standards)
- Consults on development of requirements and specifications and apply functional knowledge of business functions to design optimal software / systems
- Reviews technical deliverables throughout detailed design and development phase to ensure quality adherence and identify gaps or redesign requirements as needed
- Identifies, recommends, sources, negotiates and implements improvements/ solutions (buy/build/reuse) to enhance customer experience, availability, and/or reduce cost in support of client needs
- Works with Technology partners to define metrics and performance goals for the application
- Identifies and addresses application and data issues and cross-capability and cross-release issues that affect application integrity
- Researches/ analyzes business requirements to evaluate and recommend optimal solutions within business technology architecture; collects environment requirements for infrastructure implementation by analyzing the current system environment, using technical tools and utilities
- Works with Architects to ensure that environment modifications interact appropriately, data conversion impacts are considered, and other areas of impact are addressed and meet performance requirements of the project
- Contributes to the advancement of the TD engineering practice through strong collaboration, research, analytic, and problem-solving skills
Shareholder Accountabilities:
- Leads coordination & and manages expectations with the technology work teams such as ITS, ARE, Architecture, Enterprise Protect etc. to ensure overall delivery success
- Performs or leads data analysis/investigations of complex issues/ test cases as part of UAT/PAT testing
- Escalation points for post implementation activities during the warranty period
- Approves code check-in/ check-out into source code repository as part of source code management
- Leads coordination with ITS/ ARE teams to support code packaging & deployment (CI & CD) into higher environments
- Is the lead participant in the design & architecture reviews or the application
- Escalation points for service-now requests & other activities related to release management
- Leads data engineering initiatives and capabilities, data governance principles and how they apply across the organization
- Leads design and implementation of enterprise/segment metadata management initiatives across the board with a wholistic mindset
- Adheres & leads standard security coding practices to ensure application is free of most common coding vulnerabilities
- Has oversight responsibility to ensure technical decisions, technical risks and lessons learned are identified, implemented and clearly documented
- Protects the interests of the organization – identifies and manages risks, and escalates non-standard, high-risk activities as necessary
- Adheres to internal policies/procedures and applicable regulatory guidelines
- Supports the Technology asset owner and the enterprise protect team for any matters related to risk management, information security and audit
- Leads initiatives on emerging trends/ developments and grows knowledge of the business, related tools, and techniques
