Department Overview
The Canadian Commercial Banking, Governance & Control (CCB G&C) team acts as the 1st Line of Defense (1B) in TD's "Three Lines of Defense" model to risk management. We work with Control Partners to ensure appropriate control frameworks are implemented within Commercial Banking (CB) that are designed to effectively and proactively mitigate operational and regulatory risk. We are also responsible for completing quality control testing activities to ensure appropriate compliance to regulations and business processes.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Manager, Canadian Commercial Banking, Governance & Control, the Senior Governance & Control Analyst plays a key role in supporting the Commercial Banking control environment through AML and regulatory compliance subject matter expertise, governance oversight, and control testing activities. The role is responsible for identifying and assessing regulatory and risk impacts, supporting issue management and remediation, and providing actionable guidance to business partners and leadership to strengthen compliance and operational effectiveness.
Key Responsibilities
Governance, Risk & Control Oversight
Manage and support business governance and control programs that require coordination across multiple areas and stakeholders in support of business objectives and established standards.
Lead the periodic refresh of AML and regulatory compliance management controls.
Review processes and controls to identify trends, connect related issues and control gaps, and support more standardized and sustainable solutions.
Interpret guidelines, standards, policies, and analysis results to support sound decision-making at senior levels.
Issue Management & Advisory Support
Manage the intake and assessment of risk incidents and potential issues from an AML and regulatory impact perspective.
Coordinate issue tracking and lifecycle management, including escalation, reporting, remediation monitoring, and closure with relevant stakeholders.
Provide subject matter expertise and specialized governance and control advice to management, leadership, and business partners on Commercial Banking AML and regulatory compliance matters.
Exercise sound judgment and discretion when managing sensitive information, correspondence, and confidential matters.
Testing, Reporting & Team Contribution
Execute governance and control testing activities in accordance with established standards, methodologies, and testing programs.
Keep management informed on the status and progress of testing activities and ensure deliverables are completed within assigned timelines.
Contribute to a positive team environment by supporting colleagues and providing training, coaching, and guidance when appropriate.
Required Qualifications
Minimum 7 years of related experience in governance, risk, controls, compliance, audit, or a similar environment within the banking or financial services industry.
Strong analytical and detail-oriented skills, with experience collecting, organizing, and assessing information to support sound decisions.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively across teams and levels of management.
Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment, manage multiple priorities, and work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Proficient knowledge of governance, risk, and control procedures, practices, and methodologies.
Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to meet tight timelines and adapt to changing priorities.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, including advanced Excel skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in audit, AML, regulatory compliance testing, or first line controls testing, with in-depth knowledge of banking business processes.
A degree in business, finance, or a related field.
Professional certifications related to risk, audit, or compliance, such as CIA, CPA, or ACAMS.
