This role will be based in Hillsboro, OR.

This role may require working evening or overnight shifts (3:00 PM – 12:00 AM or 11:00 PM – 8:00 AM).
The Data Center Hardware Engineering team is a highly skilled, hands-on technical group dedicated to maintaining the reliability and resilience of LinkedIn’s global server and network infrastructure. This team not only executes advanced break-fix repairs but also acts as a critical escalation point for Associate Hardware Engineers and contracted Data Center Technicians, ensuring strict adherence to SLAs and KPIs. Partnering closely with local Site Supervisors, Hardware Engineers lead advanced troubleshooting, incident response, and technical mentorship that directly safeguard LinkedIn’s infrastructure stability and uptime. In an environment where downtime is measured in minutes, precision, speed, and seamless collaboration are essential to the team’s success.
Responsibilities:
• Perform hardware break-fix repairs, including replacing failed drives, DIMMs, fans, power supplies, motherboards, SSDs, NVMe devices, and other components.
• Coordinate with hardware OEM vendors for RMA, firmware updates, and resolution of chronic issues impacting LinkedIn’s server fleet.
• Act as the point of escalation for Associate Hardware Engineers and contracted technicians, taking ownership of complex hardware and Linux issues, coordinate with OEM vendors for resolution, and ensure SLA/KPI compliance.
• Monitor and engage with the Jira ticket queue daily, ensuring tickets are processed correctly, SLA-compliant, and escalated appropriately.
• Troubleshoot and resolve advanced Linux OS-level issues across all server platforms.
• Develop and maintain internal documentation, troubleshooting guides, and training content to improve data center technician effectiveness.
• Support deployment engineers with resolving autobuild (Linux Kickstart) failures, including remediation of “straggler” nodes.
• Diagnose and resolve physical-layer network connectivity issues within LinkedIn data centers.
• Troubleshoot dark fiber issues and physical-layer connectivity problems at LinkedIn’s regional POPs.
• Assist with hardware installations and upgrades outside of quarterly organic growth projects.
• Review LinkedIn’s Incident Dashboard and DCIM for electrical infrastructure faults, taking action on fatal or warning incidents and escalating to Senior Data Center Engineers (IC3) as needed.
• Partner with cross-functional teams to identify efficiency opportunities and improve break-fix processes.
• Participate in an on-call rotation to support global data center operations.
Basic Qualifications:
• 1+ years of experience in a Data Center Engineering Role
• 1+ years of Linux troubleshooting experience
• 1+ years of server hardware troubleshooting experience
• 1+ years of physical layer network troubleshooting experience
Preferred Qualifications:
• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent industry experience.
• 2+ years in a Data Center Engineering Role
• 2+ years Linux troubleshooting experience.
• 2+ years server hardware troubleshooting experience.
• 2+ years physical layer network troubleshooting experience.

The pay range for this role is $88,000 to $144,000. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, certifications, and specific work location. This may be different in other locations due to differences in the cost of labor.
