About the team

As part of the New Construction Data Science team, you will be an integral partner to the New Construction Product & Business Teams. Through organizing, analyzing, and visualizing large datasets, you’ll have the unique opportunity to empower both short and long-term decision-making for a better customer experience.

Our team’s structure is very flat and you will soon find yourself working directly with Senior Leadership. You’ll also be part of the broader Data Science, Engineering, and Analytics team to learn from your peers and collaborate on various interesting projects.

About the role

As a Data Scientist, you will analyze how customers interact with new construction listings, how builders and customers interact with each other, and how builders work with Zillow. You will provide thought leadership in optimizing customer/builder experience and Zillow revenue.

In this role, you will:

  • Analyze, interpret, and visualize large, complex datasets to identify trends, patterns, and insights that support Zillow’s New Construction business.

  • Effectively communicate complex analytical findings to diverse stakeholders, translating technical concepts into actionable insights and recommendations, and getting stakeholders buy-in.

  • Collaborate with product and business stakeholders to define key metrics, goals, and objectives, and develop data-driven strategies to track and achieve them.

  • Utilize causal inference techniques and novel experimental designs to evaluate the launches of pilot programs.

  • Understanding revenue attributes using various modeling techniques.

  • Effectively manage prioritization and planning with key stakeholders.

  • Collaborate with data engineering teams to design and optimize data pipelines and workflows to support efficient data collection, storage, and processing.

This role has been categorized as a Remote position. “Remote” employees do not have a permanent corporate office workplace and, instead, work from a physical location of their choice, which must be identified to the Company. U.S. employees may live in any of the 50 United States, with limited exceptions.

In addition to a competitive base salary and benefits, this position is also eligible for equity awards based on factors such as experience, performance and location.

Who you are

  • You are ready to bring your data and analytics expertise to transform what it means to dream, search, and find a home. You seek to understand the many needs of our customers and advocate for them at every turn. You have an appreciation of the unique challenges posed by a multi-platform experience. Additionally, you are:

  • Creative and enthusiastic about seeking new solutions to problems and opportunities.

  • Have an undergraduate or Master’s degree in a quantitative field (e.g. mathematics, engineering, statistics, finance, or similar).

  • 3+ years of work experience involving quantitative data analysis, experimentation and sophisticated problem-solving, preferably in a consumer-facing product.

  • A strong understanding of statistical concepts, measurement issues, and inference techniques.

  • Experience articulating and translating business questions and using statistical techniques to arrive at answers.

  • Proficiency in SQL, Python/R, along with some experience with visualization tools and working with terabyte sized clickstream data.

  • Experience with ETL pipelines, scheduling and productionalizing. (Airflow, Spark, or similar experience is a plus)

  • Ability to think creatively and provide thoughtful, agile insights

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to distill analysis into simple, structured frameworks with concrete action plans

  • Able to work across silos and influence business partners to set realistic goals and focus on data-driven solutions
