The MakeOS MissionThe world’s best productions, the ones people talk about, share, and remember, are powered by incredible producers. And almost no software. Behind the scenes, it’s still spreadsheets, emails, and duct-taped workflows holding together projects worth millions. We’re building MakeOS to change that.MakeOS is the operating system for modern production. A single system that brings together budgets, vendors, approvals, and payments in real time, creating a true source of truth for how production actually runs. When you remove the chaos, producers get their time and headspace back to focus on the craft, the decisions, and the moments that make something great. We’re not here to replace the people who make culture. We exist to make it better.‍About The TeamWe’re a small, high-trust, VC-backed team where people take real ownership. We move quickly, stay close to decisions, and keep things simple with no unnecessary layers, no excess process. The bar is high, the feedback is direct, and the work is real. You’ll be working alongside people who care deeply about what they build and how they build it.‍About The RoleAt MakeOS, trust is built in the details most people never notice. Our product handles real money, so confidence comes from how it behaves when it matters. We often think of the Toyota engineer who spent years perfecting the sound of a car door closing—that solid thud signaling security. That is this role. You’ll build the systems that ensure our product is reliable, consistent, and trustworthy before it ever reaches a user. This includes rigorous validation, fixing bugs, and improving overall product quality. By focusing on edge cases and the details most people overlook, your work gives the team confidence to move fast without breaking what matters. This role is for someone who takes pride in getting those small, critical details right. There is significant growth opportunity with this position; you won't be stuck in the QA world 100% of the time, with paths to expand into broader feature implementation and engineering challenges. What You’ll Do:Write, execute, and maintain automated end-to-end and integration tests using modern frameworks to protect our core workflows.Act as the first line of defense by digging into logs, finding the root cause of failed pipelines or bugs, and proposing the fix.Jump into the main codebase to fix bugs, UI glitches, and logic errors to help the team keep moving.Participate actively in code reviews across the stack to catch edge cases early, and progressively take on building and updating core product features as you master the system. Our Tech Stack:Python FastAPI backendReact / MUI frontendPostgreSQL, Redis, DockerWhat We’re Looking ForSolid software engineering and test automation experience or educationProficiency in JavaScript, TypeScript, and/or PythonHands-on experience with modern testing frameworks (Playwright, Cypress, Jest, or similar). You are detail oriented and have a destructive, edge-case mindset. You enjoy trying to break things to see how they handle failure.Nice to have: experience working in or adjacent to productionWhat are we offering? The TangiblesPTO and company-paid holidaysRemote-first with occasional in-person meetingsComprehensive Health benefitsMac laptop providedPhone, Internet + Software Stipend$500 one time at home work space stipendThe Intangibles (Why this role is different)Early stage, high impactMentorship opportunities with code reviews and regular 1:1s with senior engineersGrowth paths from quality focus to feature implementationCollaborative environmentWho Thrives HereThis team isn’t for everyone. The people who do well here tend to recognize themselves in a few of these:You take ownership without waiting to be told what to doYou care about the quality of your work, even when no one is watchingYou can give and receive direct, honest and constructive feedbackYou like being close to the work, not managing from a distanceYou move quickly and make decisions without perfect informationYou’re always learning, but don’t get stuck in theoryYou show up for the team, but your identity isn’t defined by your jobYou may find this environment challenging if you prefer a lot of structure, consensus-driven decisions, or clearly defined lanes.‍Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & BelongingMakeOS is an equal opportunity employer and we’re committed to diversity and inclusion in the workplace. We prohibit discrimination and harassment of any kind based on ethnicity, sex, religion, sexual orientation, national origin, disability, genetic information, pregnancy, or any other protected characteristic as outlined by federal, provincial, or local laws. Relentless FocusWe prioritize the few things that matter most.Focus allows us to move faster, build deeper, and deliver meaningful progress rather than spreading effort across competing priorities.2. Product-Level CraftGreat technology is built through disciplined attention to detail. From architecture to interface, we pursue a standard of craft that makes the product reliable, intuitive, and built to last.3. End-to-End OwnershipThe best products emerge when the people building them take full responsibility for the outcome.Teams own problems from concept through execution, ensuring alignment between design, engineering, and delivery.4. Confidential by DefaultTrust is built through disciplined stewardship of information. We operate with confidentiality around our product, roadmap, and partners so teams can move quickly and customers can trust our systems.5. User Experience Drives EverythingTechnology exists to serve the user.We design and build with the real workflows, pressures, and decisions of our users in mind, ensuring the product solves meaningful problems in the real world.
