About the Position

As a member of the Venture Growth team, the Senior Manager, Momentum Program will lead the strategic design, delivery, and continued evolution of the Momentum Program: a flagship initiative supporting Canada’s highest-potential scale-stage technology companies.

The Momentum Program advances MaRS’ mission by supporting ventures that are scaling transformative technologies, typically companies generating $5M–$100M in ARR or those that have secured more than $20M in external financing.

The Senior Manager will be responsible for both program leadership and portfolio impact, overseeing venture engagement, program strategy, and cross-functional coordination across the MaRS ecosystem. This role works directly with founders and executive teams navigating complex scaling challenges including go-to-market expansion, product evolution, capital strategy, M&A opportunities, and organizational growth.

The Senior Manager serves as a trusted partner to scale-stage founders, helping translate their priorities into actionable support by mobilizing MaRS resources, advisors, and ecosystem partners. This role also plays a key role in shaping how the Momentum Program evolves to meet the changing needs of Canada’s most ambitious technology companies.

Key Responsibilities

Program Strategy & Leadership

  • Lead the strategic direction, design, and continuous improvement of the Momentum Program to ensure it delivers measurable value to participating ventures.
  • Identify emerging needs among scale-stage companies and evolve programming, resources, and advisory models accordingly.
  • Contribute to the long-term vision and positioning of the Momentum Program within Canada's innovation ecosystem.

Venture Portfolio Leadership

  • Lead relationships with a portfolio of scale-stage companies, serving as a trusted partner to founders and executive teams.
  • Diagnose venture challenges across functional areas such as go-to-market strategy, product development, capital strategy, organizational scaling, and operational execution.
  • Translate venture needs into actionable support by connecting founders to relevant advisors, programs, and resources across the MaRS ecosystem.
  • Identify key growth milestones and success indicators for participating companies and track progress across the portfolio.

Venture Recruitment & Selection

  • Lead sourcing, evaluation, and selection of ventures entering the Momentum Program.
  • Assess venture readiness for scale-stage programming including factors such as market traction, team maturity, capital strategy, and growth potential.
  • Collaborate with investors, ecosystem partners, and internal teams to identify high-potential companies.

Advisor & Ecosystem Engagement

  • Cultivate relationships with advisors, investors, industry leaders, and ecosystem partners to strengthen the program’s network and value proposition.
  • Mobilize advisors strategically to support venture needs across areas such as go-to-market expansion, capital raising, M&A strategy, and executive leadership development.
  • Ensure advisor and stakeholder engagement is structured, efficient, and aligned with venture priorities.

Program Operations & Impact Measurement

  • Oversee program operations including portfolio tracking, venture engagement, and reporting.
  • Establish metrics and frameworks to measure venture progress, program performance, and ecosystem impact.
  • Continuously refine program delivery processes to improve efficiency and outcomes.
  • Work closely with teams across MaRS: including sector teams (Health, Climate, etc.), MarCom, and Legal to deliver coordinated and high-impact support for participating ventures.
  • Provide leadership, mentorship, or oversight to junior team members or program staff supporting Momentum delivery.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate/Bachelor’s degree or relevant experience (focus in business, finance, science, technology and/or environment an asset)
  • 8+ years of experience in a business or technology-related field
  • Experience working with founders and executive teams on go-to-market strategy, product development, organizational scaling, or capital strategy.
  • Exposure to venture capital, fundraising, mergers and acquisitions, or exit readiness is considered a strong asset.
  • Proven project or program management experience, including planning, execution, and delivery of complex initiatives
  • Knowledge of key challenges and opportunities for high-growth companies an asset
  • Experience building/managing community programming (peer-to-peers, advisory services, etc.) is an asset
  • Demonstrates critical thinking and analytical approach with the ability to understand and synthesize complex concepts into clear and compelling presentations
  • Strong ability to multitask to meet the demands of a fast-paced, high-energy environment without compromising quality and attention to detail
  • Familiarity with Salesforce, G Suite, Slack, Calendar, Asana, and Mailchimp an asset

Applicants must be legally eligible to work in Canada, reside in Ontario and be willing to work out of our Toronto office (101 College Street) a minimum of 3 days per week.

Salary Range: $90,000 - $110,000, up to 10% discretionary incentive target, GRSP matching, extended healthcare benefits, wellness spending account, and paid time-off.
