The Role
The VP of Partnership Sales will play a pivotal role in driving Merchant Growth’s mission to become the go-to financing partner for small businesses across Canada. This leadership role is responsible for identifying, acquiring, and nurturing strategic corporate partnerships that unlock scalable growth opportunities and expand our partnership ecosystem. The ideal candidate will be a high-impact sales leader with expertise in prospecting, relationship management, and deal negotiation. With full ownership of the sales cycle, from lead generation to partnership agreements, this role requires an entrepreneurial mindset, cross-functional collaboration, and a passion for supporting small business owners. As a key member of the management team, the VP will contribute to the strategic growth of the organization, driving revenue through innovative partnerships and enabling our partners to offer value-added services to small businesses and other partners across Canada.
Main Functions
Corporate Partner Acquisition & Business Development
- Build relationships with decision-makers and develop compelling value propositions that align with partners' goals and Merchant Growth’s mission.
- Identify, engage, and secure strategic partnerships with corporate organizations, financial institutions, and key ecosystem players across multiple business verticals.
Strategic Prospecting & Pipeline Management
- Lead proactive outreach efforts to generate leads and establish meetings with high-potential partners.
- Manage and nurture a robust partnership pipeline, ensuring consistent follow-ups and advancing opportunities toward closure.
Full Ownership of the Sales Cycle for Partnerships
- Manage the entire sales process, from initial contact to negotiating and finalizing partnership agreements.
- Develop mutually beneficial terms that create long-term value for both partners and Merchant Growth.
Collaborate Across Teams to Drive Partner Enablement
- Work closely with marketing, finance, and operations teams to align partnership strategies with internal objectives.
- Ensure seamless onboarding and enablement of new partners by collaborating with Inside Sales management and support teams.
Customer-Focused and Value-Driven Selling
- Understand the needs of partners and small business owners to offer tailored solutions that drive adoption of Merchant Growth’s products.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to partners, guiding them on how Merchant Growth’s services can enhance value for their small business clients.
Performance Management & Reporting
- Set partnership acquisition targets and track key performance metrics (e.g., new partner accounts, activation, revenue, and ecosystem growth).
- Provide regular updates to the EVP of Revenue and executive team on pipeline status, market trends, and partnership performance.
Market Insights & Continuous Improvement
- Stay informed about industry trends, competitor activities, and market dynamics to refine the partnership strategy.
- Lead by example with disciplined sales practices, ensuring effective use of
- CRM and consistent follow-through on all opportunities.
Leadership & Team Development
- Build and develop a high-performing external sales team as the partner ecosystem expands.
- Provide coaching, mentorship, and guidance to team members, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous learning.
About you
- 10+ years of experience in B2B sales, with a proven track record of securing and managing high-value partnerships.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with a passion for supporting small businesses and driving ecosystem growth.
- Exceptional prospecting, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
- Strong background in corporate partnerships, financial services, or related industries.
- Ability to manage complex sales cycles and deliver value-driven solutions to partners.
- Demonstrated experience in working across functional teams to achieve aligned outcomes.
- Strong analytical and reporting skills with proficiency in using CRM tools (e.g., Salesforce).
