Role Summary

Novamera is a venture-backed mining-technology company commercializing a proprietary platform that integrates subsurface imaging, digital simulation, and robotic extraction to unlock complex and narrow-vein ore bodies. As the company transitions from R&D and field validation into scaled commercial deployments across multiple jurisdictions, Novamera requires a Corporate Controller to build and operate a finance function that can support capital-intensive projects, complex revenue models, and institutional- grade reporting.

The Corporate Controller will be responsible for establishing and maintaining Novamera’s financial infrastructure, controls, and reporting systems. This role will serve as the operational backbone of the finance organization, ensuring that government funding, project-based revenues, and investor capital are accurately tracked, compliant, auditable, and aligned with strategic decision-making.

This is a hands-on leadership role reporting to the CFO (or COO if CFO is not yet in place), with significant interaction with external auditors, government agencies, investors, and operating teams.

Core Responsibilities

Financial Operations & Controls

• Own the company’s general ledger, close process, and financial reporting across all entities and jurisdictions

• Design and enforce internal controls appropriate for a venture-backed, capital-intensive technology company

• Implement policies and procedures to ensure accuracy, segregation of duties, and auditability

• Maintain compliance with GAAP/IFRS (as applicable) and evolving reporting requirements

Project & Revenue Accounting

• Establish and maintain project-based accounting for multi-month field deployments, customer contracts, and hardware-enabled SaaS revenue

• Implement and manage revenue recognition for complex contracts involving hardware, services, software, and milestone-based payments

• Track project margins, cost-to-complete, and capitalized vs. expensed costs

• Partner with operations and engineering to ensure accurate capture of labor, materials, and subcontractor costs

Government Grants & Non-Dilutive Funding

• Own all financial reporting, tracking, and compliance for government grants and R&D funding

• Build systems to segregate grant-eligible costs, maintain audit trails, and meet reporting requirements

• Support audits and reviews by government agencies and funding partners

• Work closely with technical teams to ensure financial alignment with grant milestones

Budgeting, Forecasting & Cash Management

• Build and maintain operating budgets, project budgets, and cash-flow forecasts

• Develop rolling forecasts that integrate commercial deployments, grant funding, and capital raises

• Provide scenario analysis for deployment schedules, financing timing, and capital needs

• Ensure the company maintains sufficient liquidity across multiple geographies and projects

Investor & Board Reporting

• Produce monthly, quarterly, and ad-hoc financial reporting for investors, lenders, and the Board

• Support equity and debt financings with accurate financial statements, data rooms, and diligence materials

• Provide insight into burn rate, runway, project economics, and capital efficiency

Audit, Tax & Compliance

• Lead all external audits, reviews, and regulatory filings

• Manage relationships with auditors, tax advisors, and local finance providers

• Oversee corporate, sales, payroll, and international tax compliance

• Ensure subsidiary reporting and intercompany accounting is accurate and timely

Systems & Scale

• Implement and maintain financial systems that can scale with the business (ERP, project

accounting, expense management, etc.)

• Automate reporting and controls as volume and complexity increase

• Build and manage a small but high-quality accounting and finance team

Qualifications

Required

• CPA, CA, or equivalent professional accounting designation

• 8–15+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience

• Experience in a venture-backed or project-based technology, energy, industrial, or mining environment

• Deep knowledge of revenue recognition, project accounting, and cost capitalization

• Experience managing audits, internal controls, and multi-entity financial reporting

• Proven ability to operate in a fast-moving, ambiguous environment

Strongly Preferred

• Experience with government grants, R&D credits, or non-dilutive funding programs

• Experience with international subsidiaries and cross-border operations

• Experience in hardware-enabled SaaS, energy technology, or capital-intensive industrial businesses

• Prior startup or scale-up experience

What Success Looks Like

Within 12–18 months, the Corporate Controller will have:

• Established clean, auditable financials across all entities

• Built project-level visibility into margins, cost overruns, and deployment economics

• Created a grant-compliant financial infrastructure that passes government audits

• Enabled institutional-grade investor reporting

• Provided leadership with accurate, forward-looking financial insight to guide commercialization and capital strategy
