Employment Type: Full-time Intern, May – January 2027 (Hybrid: 3 days/week min in-person), with the possibility of extension.

Salary Range: Paid ($26/hour)

Reports To: Manager, Fund Development and Grants; supporting Business Development & Philanthropy team.

Key Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Manager, Fund Development and Grants, within the Business Development and Philanthropy team, this role will support partnership development activities, market research, and the execution of Ontario Genomics’ grants and fund development strategy, with opportunities to contribute to initiatives with the Senior Director, Business Development & Philanthropy.

  • Conduct market research and competitor analysis to identify potential funding sources, industry partners, and emerging trends in the genomics and biotech sectors.
  • Assist in the preparation of grant applications, proposals, and pitch decks for government and private sector stakeholders.
  • Maintain and update the Customer Relationship Management (CRM) database to track leads and interactions.
  • Support the planning and execution of engagement strategies for events, funding calls, and meetings.
  • Provide general support for business development and outreach initiatives as needed.

As a member of an agile team, this role also includes other duties, as assigned, to support the overall function of our organization.

Qualifications & Attributes:

  • Currently enrolled in, or soon to be completing a degree in Business (Commerce/MBA), Life Sciences, Economics, STEM disciplines, or other fields relevant to the bioeconomy
  • Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret and synthesize market data
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint), design tools such as Canva, and experience with CRM tools (e.g., Salesforce, HubSpot) is an asset
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for drafting proposals and professional correspondence
  • Previous experience in the preparation of compelling decks and presentations.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to multitask
  • Interest in genomics, biotechnology, and/or scientific innovation
  • High-level strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic, matrixed and fast-paced environment
  • Proven initiative, sound judgment, and discretion; able to advocate for improvements and bring forward opportunities
