Position: Postdoctoral Fellow

Location: MaRS Centre, Toronto

Department: Drug Discovery Program

Reports To: Scientific Advisor

Salary: Commensurate with level of experience

Hours: 35 hours/week

Job Type: On-site

Status: Full-time, Temporary (2-year contract with potential for renewal)

Position Summary

The Drug Discovery Program at the Ontario Institute for Cancer Research (OICR) is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Postdoctoral Fellow to drive the development of its lipidomics and metabolomics platforms. Using cutting-edge analytical techniques such as LC-MS and HPLC, the successful candidate will play a key role in supporting drug discovery efforts by performing lipidomics and metabolomics analyses of biological samples.

This position is temporary, full-time for two-years with the possibility of renewal.

Position Responsibilities

  • Lead in the design and conduct experiments to test biological hypotheses;
  • Prepare biological samples for analysis, using automation where applicable;
  • Perform qualitative and quantitative analysis utilizing various LC-MS methods;
  • Analyze data with metabolomics and lipidomics software tools;
  • Maintain and troubleshoot analytical instruments;
  • Analyze in vitro samples using LC-MS/MS methods;
  • Maintain meticulous records of experimental procedures and data;
  • Liaise effectively with multi-disciplinary team members (biology, medicinal chemistry) within the Drug Discovery Program, with other OICR Research Programs, and with academic and industry collaborators;
  • Participate in team meetings, both internal and external;
  • Present results to internal and external audiences, and contribute to funding requests, as well as prepare and edit manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals;
  • Work efficiently under tight timelines and communicate results effectively.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in biochemistry, molecular biology, molecular genetics, cell biology, cancer biology, or a related field, or recognized equivalent;
  • Hands-on experience in metabolomics and lipidomics workflows;
  • Proficiency with data analysis tools such as MetaboAnalyst and XCMS;
  • Experience with HPLC, LC-MS, and LC-MS/MS for metabolomics and lipidomics applications;
  • Great team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Highly motivated self-starter who enjoys an element of ambiguity and is willing to adapt to a changing environment.
