Salary: Commensurate with level of experience; total compensation includes a competitive benefits plan, plus a defined benefit pension plan (HOOPP)

Position Summary
The Ontario Institute for Cancer Research (OICR) is seeking an IT Infrastructure Architect II to join our Information Technology team. The IT Infrastructure Architect II will perform a critical role in designing, implementing and maintaining the leading-edge technology infrastructure that plays a key role in OICR’s cancer research activities. The successful candidate will join a team of ~30 IT professionals, supporting state of the art on-premise and cloud-based technology services to over 300 local research, lab and administrative users, and thousands of collaborators across Ontario and globally. OICR’s infrastructure consists of Linux and Windows servers, including a large high performance compute cluster (GPU and CPU), large virtualization platforms, over 10 PetaBytes of high performance storage, and over 1,000 client and lab devices.
Position Responsibilities
- Designs, modifies, develops, implements and supports and/or installs infrastructure systems operating systems, software, and hardware both on-premises and on Cloud Platforms using defined information security frameworks.
- Interprets log results and system behaviors.
- Ensures IT infrastructure systems operate as intended.
- Pro-actively identifies potential problems in infrastructure systems (internal or 3rd party) and suggests solutions.
- Prepares accurate status reports on deliverables.
- Coordinates work teams and provides technical support to project team members.
- Contributes to and is active in infrastructure systems projects with internal and external collaborators.
- Makes high-level design choices for infrastructure systems projects, including technologies, standards, platforms and tools.
- May provide consultation on complex projects.
- Establish processes to ensure the quality of deliverables through automated code monitoring and tested.
- Writes High Level technical documentation.
- Defines processes between business and vendors and suppliers.
- Helps manage day-to-day operations.
- Manages priorities and meets project timelines and infrastructure systems objectives without requiring direct supervision.
- Helps design, adheres to and promotes new team infrastructure systems engineering guidelines, practices, OICR policies.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Engineering, or recognized equivalent.
- Expert level knowledge of Linux operating systems.
- Expert level knowledge of Openstack and Ceph technologies.
- Expert level knowledge of infrastructure services like DNS, Mail, LDAP/AD, data backup and restore, and logging.
- Expert level experience in selecting, configuring, and using industry standard automation (e.g. Ansible) and monitoring tools.
- Expert level experience with designing, configuring and operating a large number of, secure, scalable, highly available servers on a server virtualization platform based on technology like OpenStack, VMWare or KVM.
- Expert level experience in securing IT infrastructure.
- Ability to work well with others and to provide technical leadership, collaborate with others, make technical recommendations, communicate technical decisions, mentor, oversee and assign tasks to technical staff.
- Solid knowledge of Information security concepts and practices, and network hardware/software protocols and principles.
- A proven foundation in evaluating, deploying and maintaining open-source solutions.
- Experience with one or more of the following technologies: Ansible, git, Terraform, Kubernetes, Docker.
- Intermediate experience with scripting languages.
- Must be able to read, write and speak English fluently.
- Ability to participate in an after-hours on-call rotation.
- Has a passion for problem-solving with a methodical workflow to resolve complex IT infrastructure issues.
