Job Details

Position: Student, Protein Production and Structural Biology

Location: MaRS Centre, Toronto

Department: Drug Discovery

Reports To: Senior Scientific Advisor

Hiring Range: $18 - $20 per hour commensurate with level of experience; total compensation includes a defined benefit pension plan (HOOPP)

Hours: 35 hours/week

Job Type: On-site

Status: Full-Time, Temporary (May - August 2026)

Position Summary

The Ontario Institute for Cancer Research (OICR) is looking to fill a new vacancy for a Student with a background in protein sciences to join the Drug Discovery Program. The successful candidate will have completed two (2) to three (3) of undergraduate study with excellent knowledge of protein biochemistry.

This position is temporary, full-time for four (4) months from May to August 2026.

Position Responsibilities

  • Work closely with scientists to learn needed laboratory skills.
  • Express and purify proteins.
  • Collaborate effectively with the Protein Production, Assays, and Structural Biology teams.
  • Communicate effectively with internal collaborators.
  • Adhere to all OICR safety guidelines and policies, and follow Best Laboratory Practices.


Position Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor's degree program in a related field.
  • Some experience in basic protein biochemistry.
  • Basic knowledge of protein production.
  • Great team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Highly motivated and willing to adapt to a changing environment.
