About Us
OTI Lumionics is developing advanced materials—by design—using quantum simulations, machine learning and real-world testing in pilot production. We are currently focused on key enabling materials for OLED displays that will be used in next-generation consumer electronics and automotive. Our advanced electrode materials, and associated manufacturing technology, are being used to build transparent displays and lighting. We work closely with our partners and customers to design new materials that are mass-production ready. Using our computational Materials Discovery Platform, we are able to rapidly iterate new materials, allowing fast turn around time to meet our customers’ needs.
Primary Responsibilities
· OTI Lumionics is looking for a Chemical Process Engineer to join its Chemistry team. The Chemical Process Engineer will carry out planning and execution of scale-up activities for synthesis and produce molecules using various chemical and instrumental techniques, in accordance with SOPs, and heath & safety standards, while working under minimal supervision. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
· Plan and execute scale-up activities for chemical synthesis processes, ensuring efficient and cost-effective production.
· Collaborate with research and development teams to transfer new processes from the lab to pilot-scale and commercial-scale production.
· Conduct process optimization studies to enhance the efficiency, yield, and quality of chemical synthesis processes.
· Design and develop process flow diagrams (PFDs) and process and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) for chemical synthesis processes.
· Perform process simulations and modeling to evaluate the performance and feasibility of various process designs.
· Identify and troubleshoot process issues and develop solutions to improve process performance, safety, and reliability.
· Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including chemists, operators, and maintenance personnel, to ensure smooth process implementation and operation.
· Evaluate and select appropriate equipment and technologies for chemical synthesis processes.
· Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for chemical synthesis processes.
· Conduct risk assessments and implement safety measures to ensure compliance with regulatory and company standards.
· Monitor and analyze process data to identify trends and opportunities for further process improvement.
· Participate in process safety reviews, including hazard and operability studies (HAZOP) and process safety management (PSM) assessments.
· Provide technical support and guidance to production teams during process start-up and troubleshooting activities.
· Prepare reports and presentations to communicate process performance, optimization results, and recommendations to stakeholders.
Profile
· Bachelor's degree or higher in Chemical Engineering or a related field.
· 5-10 years of experience in chemical process engineering, including scale-up and process optimization.
Required Skills
· Strong knowledge of chemical synthesis principles, reaction kinetics, and process design.
· Experience with technology transfer from lab-scale to pilot-scale and commercial-scale production.
· Familiarity with process start-up and troubleshooting activities.
· Attention to detail and a commitment to ensuring high-quality process performance and compliance.
· Proficient in process simulation software and modeling tools is considered an asset.
· Familiarity with process flow diagram (PFD) and process and instrumentation diagram (P&ID) development.
· In-depth understanding of process safety principles and regulations.
· Ability to troubleshoot process issues, analyze data, and propose effective solutions.
· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for collaboration with cross-functional teams.
· Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
· Knowledge of equipment selection and process optimization techniques.
· Familiarity with process safety management (PSM) and standard operating procedure (SOP) development.
· Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work in a fast-paced environment.
· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
