About The Role
We’re looking for a talented Product Designer to join our Engineering team, collaborating cross-functionally to transform feature concepts into compelling UI/UX experiences. This role offers an exciting avenue for both intellectual and professional growth, allowing you to expand your role and responsibilities within the organization. Reporting to the Director of Engineering, this position offers an opportunity to make a significant impact by contributing to our design processes and the ongoing development of our suite of products, notably PathcoreFlow and PathcoreScholar.
About You
We’re looking for an experienced Product Designer with a passion for innovation, poised to challenge conventional norms, and proficient at handling diverse responsibilities. The ideal candidate should possess a strong portfolio that highlights their expertise in creating intuitive and visually appealing UI/UX for both web applications and scientific tools. Your designs demonstrate a deep understanding of user needs, usability principles, and modern design trends. The minimum qualifications needed to be considered for this role include:
- 3+ years of professional product design experience
- Strong technical background in one or more of the following areas: Life Sciences, Biology, Engineering, or Computer Science
- Proficiency with contemporary design tools (we’re currently using Figma)
- Experience working with development teams to bring designs to life
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to to articulate complex design concepts to cross-functional teams
Nice-to-have qualifications include:
- Education or experience with microscopy or pathology
- Experience with medical imaging software, image analysis, or scientific applications
- Experience with ISO 27001 or similar regulations
Your Responsibilities
- Participate in product development, from research to implementation
- Engage with the product team and scientific customers to understand the requirements
- Collaborate with the team to outline user flows and prototype initial wireframes
- Produce intuitive and beautiful user interfaces for web and mobile
- Develop a deep understanding of the workflow requirements for the use of imaging in pre-clinical and clinical settings
- Run user testing to inform design decisions

On a typical workday, you'll focus on creating product designs for new or updated features, collaborating very closely with the team to understand the requirements, exchange ideas, and address questions, primarily through Slack and Google Meet. We hold two 15-minute stand-ups weekly, during which you can update the team on your progress, address developer queries on design implementation details, and provide input on ad-hoc UI/UX changes stemming from issues or bugs. Throughout the week, you'll provide regular updates on any design revisions and attend project update meetings to ensure alignment with requirements. These meetings may involve receiving feedback that could lead to iterations on your designs. Importantly, the actual design work is completed ahead of the release cycle, ensuring readiness for implementation when developers begin their work. You'll utilize Figma for design tasks and GitLab to track progress and document design decisions. You’ll also have regular 1:1s with your manager to provide feedback, discuss any concerns you may have, and map out your career trajectory.

This challenge serves as an opportunity for us to delve deeper into your skills and qualifications, allowing us to better understand your thought process, problem-solving abilities and communication skills in action. It's a chance for you to showcase your expertise and demonstrate how you approach challenges relevant to the role you're applying for. Once you are ready to present your results, book a time to speak with our Engineering team.
