At PhenoTips, we are transforming genetic medicine by helping healthcare providers seamlessly integrate genomic insights into patient care. Backed by top Canadian investors and leading healthcare systems across Canada and the UK, our platform powers precision medicine for hospitals, clinics, and researchers worldwide.

We are looking for a Senior/Lead DevOps Engineer to join our Delivery Team. You will play a key role in maintaining and improving our cloud infrastructure, supporting deployments, and ensuring strong operational excellence through monitoring, automation, and continuous improvement.

This is a high-impact role where your reliability and customer service mindset will directly support healthcare providers around the world. If you enjoy problem-solving, continuous learning, and building robust and scalable systems, we’d love to hear from you.

Pay range: $100,000 to $130,000. We understand that compensation is a large factor in evaluating opportunities. This pay range represents our target for the role, and is determined by market data, the planned responsibilities, and internal equity. Offers are usually near the midpoint, but the final amount may be adjusted based on your experience and skills.

Your role:

Keeping things running

  • Deploy, maintain, and monitor client and internal systems across cloud environments to ensure security, scalability, and reliability.
  • Investigate and resolve infrastructure issues, collaborating cross-functionally to deliver durable, high-quality solutions.

Supporting our customers

  • Lead system deployments and upgrades while proactively identifying and escalating risks, issues and blockers.
  • Manage debugging and troubleshooting for support tickets while working closely with internal and external teams to diagnose and resolve issues.

Building for the future

  • Drive automation and continuous improvement of development and deployment processes, applying strong engineering judgment to design scalable and maintainable solutions.
  • Actively research and propose new technologies and methodologies to enhance our infrastructure and operational efficiency.
  • Enhance, establish and champion best practices for change management, compliance, risk management, and operational documentation.
  • Demonstrate strong project management discipline, including communicating estimates, timelines, and status updates to internal and external stakeholders.

Schedule and Support

Because we have customers in other time zones that depend on our infrastructure for healthcare delivery, this role includes an early-morning emergency "on-call" window.

  • Schedule: You’ll be the primary point of contact in the event of critical infrastructure incidents starting at 6am ET / 7am AT.
  • These incidents are extremely infrequent, a few times a year or less, but we need someone reliable who can jump in remotely in an emergency.
  • We value this availability, and will structure the compensation based on your location and availability.

What You Bring

We value continuous learning and potential. If you don’t meet every requirement listed below but have a passion for technology, a desire to grow, and believe you would be a strong fit for the role, we still encourage you to apply:

  • Significant experience in a DevOps role (likely 6+ years) and a strong understanding of CI/CD architecture, code repository management, and continuous integration and automated deployment tools (e.g. Git, GitHub, Jenkins, Ansible, etc.)
  • Deep expertise with managing secure cloud infrastructure, ideally on AWS and/or Azure, including system and service hardening, DNS management and authentication configuration (e.g., OAuth2).
  • Experience with container management (e.g., Docker, docker-compose).
  • Experience with managed databases, such as RDS
  • Solid understanding of DevOps monitoring, change management and deployment processes, with demonstrated risk and project management experience.
  • Strong grasp of best practices across the full software development life cycle, including code reviews, source control, testing and documentation standards.
  • Excellent analytical thinking and debugging skills, with the ability to diagnose complex infrastructure and application issues.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage professionally with customers, developers, and cross-functional teams.

Bonus Points

  • Background or experience in healthcare or genetics.
  • Experience with LDAP, SAML, Lambda, SQL, Java or other object-oriented programming languages.

Benefits and Perks

  • Comprehensive health, drug, and dental coverage, plus a Health Spending Account and a Personal Wellness/Productivity fund to use on what matters most to you.
  • We are a remote-first team with flexible schedules. We value outcomes over clock-punching, and support genuine work-life balance.
  • A $500 stipend to help ensure you have a comfortable and ergonomic home setup.
  • Paid vacation, personal/sick days, and our favorite: extended long weekends throughout the summer.
  • We get together for annual company retreats to bond, brainstorm, and celebrate our wins in person.
  • The opportunity to own a piece of what you’re building through our Stock Option plan.

The Details

  • Role: Full-time, permanent, 100% remote (Canadian residents only. Ideally located in Ontario or the East Coast).
  • Eligibility: Must be authorized to work in Canada (sorry, no sponsorship available at this time).
  • How to Apply: Submit your Resume and a few paragraphs telling us why you’re interested in PhenoTips and this specific role (in one document), by March 20th, 2026.
  • Next Steps: We’re a small team, so while we’d love to chat with everyone, we only contact candidates moving on to the next round. Our process usually includes some job-related assessments (we’ll give you a heads-up first!) and, for the final stretch, we’ll ask for professional references and a standard background check after a conditional offer.
