Business Development Representative (Remote)

Toronto, ON, Canada · Remote

Overview:
We’re on a mission to modernize insurance, making it simpler, more accessible, and customer-first. The insurance industry is a $1T market that’s remained largely untouched by the digital revolution, and PolicyMe is here to change that. As a remote-first, Toronto-based startup with big ambitions, we’re building the future of insurance in Canada and beyond.
About This Role:
As a Business Development Representative (BDR), you’ll be at the heart of PolicyMe’s growth engine. You’ll manage a mix of inbound and outbound engagement, connecting with people who’ve already shown interest, from quote requests, started applications, to approved clients and helping move them forward in their insurance journey.
You’ll do initial outreach on inbound deals, convert incomplete applications into completed policies, and re-engage stale portions of the funnel. You’ll also qualify new clients, pack advisor calendars with high-quality meetings, and help optimize conversion throughout the funnel.
This is an established role within our Business Development team, where you’ll help scale a proven function and extend its impact. You’ll support ongoing experiments, refine strategies, and codify best practices to drive efficiency and results. Your insights and feedback will directly shape how we optimize lead conversion, outreach, and engagement at scale.
Success in this role requires curiosity, urgency, and a growth mindset. You’ll adapt your approach based on client feedback and data, continuously learning and improving how you connect with leads.
Top performers in this role will have the opportunity to pursue licensing and grow into a licensed Insurance Advisor position.
What you'll be doing:
- Engage and qualify inbound leads through phone calls, emails, and text to understand their needs, determine fit, book meetings and move them toward a sale.
- Operate with urgency to contact new leads quickly, follow up consistently, and manage a high volume of quality outreach.
- Own outreach to inbound and warm outbound segments. You will contact clients who’ve requested quotes, started applications, or been approved.
- Convert incomplete applications into active opportunities and help clients finish their purchase journey by scheduling meetings or transferring to an advisor.
- Re-engage stalled or unresponsive leads to keep the pipeline healthy and full.
- Keep your CRM (HubSpot) organized and up-to-date with detailed notes, ensuring seamless handoffs and visibility.
- Work closely with the Advisor and Operations teams to optimize lead nurturing strategies and conversion processes.
- Meet or exceed monthly conversion and engagement targets.
- Represent PolicyMe in a professional and client-centric manner.
- Analyze data to identify trends and suggest improvements to outreach strategies.
What we're looking for:
- 1–3 years of experience in sales, business development, or a similar client-facing role.
- Experience qualifying leads, booking meetings, and managing a sales pipeline.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to connect quickly and adapt your approach based on the client.
- Tech savvy and adaptable, comfortable learning new systems and making adjustments based on data and feedback.
- Experience engaging and qualifying inbound leads; outbound experience is an asset.
- Comfortable working in a CRM (we use HubSpot) and managing detailed follow ups.
- Self motivated, results driven, and able to take ownership of your performance.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to balance volume and quality.
- A strong desire to grow from a BDR into an Advisory role - we’re looking for ambitious, high-potential individuals eager to expand their impact.
- A genuine growth mindset; you seek feedback and are always looking to get better.
- Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, or a related field is an asset but not required.
- Bilingual in English & French is considered a great asset, but not required.
