Cell Biology Associate (Contract, 6 months with option for extension)
ProteinQure
ProteinQure has built the best computational platform for designing small exotic peptide therapeutics. We combine molecular simulations and machine learning to do the structure based design of drugs. We use the novel peptides to help deliver payloads in a tissue specific manner. Peptides are ideal for delivery of different payloads like radioisotopes and gene therapy since they are tissue specific and easier to manufacture. Our platform has been validated (in-vivo and with unprecedented in-vitro characteristics) with three top 25 pharma companies in their experimental assays. We are the only computational platform capable of designing peptides with the full complement of non-canonical amino acids, so that our peptides are 100x better than natural peptide ligands. We are not selling software, our partnership model involves upfront fees and milestones. We are now working on our first assets and have in-vivo efficacy for our first program in oncology.
Overview
The Cell Biology Associate will play an integral role in executing experimental work across multiple internal projects, with a focus on siRNA delivery programs at ProteinQure. This hands-on laboratory role will involve mammalian cell culture and the application of molecular and cellular biology techniques such as Western blotting, flow cytometry, and RT-PCR to assess protein expression, cell binding, and target transcript knockdown. The position will also offer exposure to work with peptides. This is an excellent growth opportunity for a recent graduate with a science degree and at least one year of laboratory experience who is eager to expand their skills in a collaborative, industry-based research environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and passage mammalian cell lines
- Generate and characterize stable mammalian cell lines
- Perform Western blots to evaluate protein expression
- Conduct flow cytometry for cell binding and expression analysis
- Perform RT-PCR to assess target transcript knockdown
- Conduct peptide characterization studies, including assessment of stability, binding, and aggregation
- Support laboratory operations, including ordering supplies, tracking invoices and inventory, and shipping samples
- Contribute to additional ad hoc laboratory or operational tasks as needed
- Presenting experimental findings in weekly group meetings
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology or similar (Master’s degree preferred)
- Minimum of 1 year hands-on mammalian cell culture experience
- Familiarity with Western blotting, flow cytometry, RT-qPCR, and cell-based assays (asset)
- Experience working with peptides or other biologics (asset)
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and record-keeping
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively in a team environment
