RetiSpec is seeking an Ophthalmic Technician to support retinal image acquisition across clinical research studies, with an immediate focus in Toronto.

With new disease-modifying drugs coming to market, the Alzheimer’s landscape is at an important inflection point; making this an exciting and impactful time to be working in this space. This role will have the opportunity to drive positive change to patient health outcomes.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

The successful candidate will be responsible for acquiring retinal images of clinical participants using a fundus camera. You will work directly with elderly patients and clinical staff to capture high-quality retinal images for research purposes.

Role responsibilities include:

• Greet participants respectfully, pleasantly, and professionally
• Facilitate an excellent imaging experience for participants and provide a comfortable and supportive environment
• Demonstrate patience and support towards participants, and ensure participant satisfaction
• Acquire high quality retinal fundus images (mydriatic and non-mydriatic) of study participants. Quality and consistency of results are of the highest standard.
• Administer dilating drops and taking medical (ophthalmic) history
• Administer study surveys as required and ensure documents are provided to study staff for secure storage
• Communicate any concerns or issues to the clinical operations team in a timely manner
• Other imaging duties might be discussed as required.

Knowledge and Experience:

• Completion of a bachelor’s degree in biomedical photography or a related ophthalmic field is preferred; Certified Ophthalmic Assistant designation or recognized equivalent is also acceptable.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience working with fundus photography (both mydriatic and non-mydriatic).
• Strong knowledge of ocular anatomy, physiology, and ophthalmic terminology.
• Proficient in the use of ophthalmic equipment, procedures, and imaging techniques.
• Excellent communication skills, particularly in patient-facing interactions.
• Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to follow study protocols and procedures with precision.
• Good Clinical Practice (GCP) certification is required. If not already certified, candidates must be willing to obtain the certification upon hiring. Training and support will be provided during onboarding.
• Comfortable using computers and able to learn new software and AI-driven technologies efficiently.
