Director of Product Management, Core Experience
Rippling
About Rippling
Rippling gives businesses one place to run HR, IT, and Finance. It brings together all of the workforce systems that are normally scattered across a company, like payroll, expenses, benefits, and computers. For the first time ever, you can manage and automate every part of the employee lifecycle in a single system.
Take onboarding, for example. With Rippling, you can hire a new employee anywhere in the world and set up their payroll, corporate card, computer, benefits, and even third-party apps like Slack and Microsoft 365—all within 90 seconds.
Based in San Francisco, CA, Rippling has raised $1.4B+ from the world’s top investors—including Kleiner Perkins, Founders Fund, Sequoia, Greenoaks, and Bedrock—and was named one of America's best startup employers by Forbes.
We prioritize candidate safety. Please be aware that all official communication will only be sent from @Rippling.com addresses.
About the role
Rippling is undergoing a major company shift from an exclusively sales-led motion focused primarily on the full HRIS/payroll suite to a strategy emphasizing product-led growth and standalone product sales. This strategy is foundational to the company’s most significant strategic shift and requires the creation of a new self-serve, product-led engine. The engine built by this team must power a growing number of purchased-product permutations, and seamlessly support customers across their lifecycle with Rippling as they adopt additional capabilities. Our platform powers the core experience for every customer, focusing on the critical pillars of Onboarding and Activation, Product Adoption and Monetization and Core User Experience.
We’re looking for a Director of Product to take on this brand-new, highly strategic role and lead the definition of what PLG looks like at Rippling. This is a "Greenfield" opportunity where you will build the team, set the charter, and define the strategy from almost scratch. You'll own core shared systems, develop onboarding for new standalone products and implement cross-selling strategies across our 24+ SKUs. The core challenge is transforming a complex multi-product system that’s historically been guided by sales and implementation support into a seamless, instantly valuable experience that scales with users' adoption.
What you will do
- Pioneer Product-Led Growth by creating (and constantly improving) the self-serve onboarding experience for new standalone products (Spend, IT, Time, Talent) that do not rely on human sales or implementation.
- Own the strategic vision and execution for Rippling’s Core Experiences, including home, navigation, and settings in a way that works across all purchased-product combinations and personas (types of employees, administrators, managers, partners)
- Build and manage a high-performing team. You will have the opportunity to immediately hire and mold the team to execute your vision for activation, monetization, and core UX.
- Work cross-functionally to successfully persuade senior peers or executives to adopt your vision for shared systems and define the boundaries between shared components and product-team customizations.
- Build a sane, unified, and consistent onboarding framework that can be shared across all products, while still allowing individual teams to customize relevant sections.
- Manage activation and experimentation efforts, including sending growth events to other systems like Salesforce.
- Develop a cross-sell machine by identifying the right time to nudge users and creating strategies for cross-selling Rippling's more than two dozen SKUs.
- Optimize monetization efforts and design empty states and messaging to increase the usage of existing products.
- Focus on product adoption and monetization by ensuring customers adopt the product correctly to see its full benefits after they sign.
- Ensure the core UX is relevant and scalable, adapting based on the user's purchased products so that a customer buying only one product doesn't feel like they are navigating a massive, complex HRIS system.
- Own the core user experience (UX) for shared components like the web home, mobile, navigation, search, and upcoming dashboards.
What you will need
- 10+ years of Product Management (or equivalent) experience
- Self-starter with a bias towards action
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
- Have owned both 0-to-1 product launches and products at scale with millions of users
- Thrives in understanding complexity and transforming it into simple user experiences
- Helicopter pilot mentality - you can easily switch from high level strategy and planning to UI polish and data model details
- Strategic visionary capable of multi-year planning
- Strong ability to motivate and inspire people to do their best work
- Possess a deep sense of ownership and responsibility and understand that the buck stops with you
- Strong alignment with our leadership principles: in particular Go and See, and Are Right, a Lot.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication and comfortable working in a highly cross-functional role
