Specific Biologics is seeking a highly motivated Laboratory Technician to join our start-up team. The core responsibilities of the Laboratory Technician will be to prepare research materials and reagents, as well as ensure smooth day-to-day operations of the lab. Preference will be given to candidates with a background in cell biology, molecular biology, biochemistry or related disciplines.

· Support research and development experiments by preparing AAV, DNA, gRNA/mRNA, protein and chemical reagent stocks.

· Analytical testing to confirm quality of reagents.

· Perform routine cell culture maintenance including media preparation, seeding, feeding and splitting.

· Perform routine cell culture assays such as viability measurements, nuclear staining and other common cell culture techniques.

· Perform routine assays such as genomic extractions, PCRs and other molecular biology techniques.

· Perform routine cloning such restriction digestions, ligations, Sanger and full plasmid sequencing.

· Support the day-to-day functioning of the lab, such as material ordering, equipment maintenance, laboratory inventories, etc.

· Maintain organized and functional lab workspaces.

· Self-motivated — eager to ‘dive-in’ and take ownership for work. Effectively manage time and plan activities.

· Collaborative and helpful — ability to work across functional areas – actively work with colleagues and take an active interest in other’s ideas and opinions.

· Organized – ability to set up and keep accurate and orderly records.

· Strong communicator — ability to explain complex, technical ideas to a variety of audiences. Clear, concise writing.

· Intellectual curiosity — desire to ask questions, challenge assumptions and develop unique solutions to challenging problems. Naturally drawn to researching new topics and approaches in literature and other sources.

The role is performed on site at Specific Biologics’ labs in JLABS @ Toronto (661 University Ave, West Tower, Toronto). Specific Biologics benefit package offering includes:
