Senior Manager, Communications
Toronto Region Board of Trade
The Toronto Region Board of Trade (the Board) is seeking an experienced, strategic, and creative communications professional to help tell the story of how we’re building a more competitive and prosperous Toronto region. Reporting to the Senior Director, Communications and Marketing, the Senior Manager, Communications leads the development and execution of strategic communications initiatives that enhance the Board’s reputation, elevate its thought leadership, and support its advocacy priorities. This role provides leadership across media relations, executive visibility, content strategy, and the Board’s owned storytelling platforms to ensure the Board’s voice is consistent, compelling, and influential across all channels.
Role Description
- Develop and lead strategic communications plans that advance organizational priorities and strengthen the Board’s profile with media, stakeholders, and members.
- Oversee and mentor direct reports providing guidance, performance management, and professional development.
- Craft high-quality written materials including press releases, media pitches, briefing notes, web copy, and other external communications.
- Partner with the CEO’s office and Policy team to amplify key messages and position the Board as a trusted, solutions-focused voice on our region’s productivity.
- Oversee media relations, including proactive story development, reactive issues management, and the cultivation of media relationships.
- Lead the creation and management of content frameworks and editorial calendars, ensuring alignment across media, web, newsletters, and social channels.
- Collaborate with the Marketing & Digital team to ensure that earned and owned media strategies reinforce one another and drive measurable engagement.
- Develop and report on communications KPIs to evaluate performance, track reach, and inform continuous improvement.
Your Experience Includes
- 6+ years of progressive experience in communications, media relations, or public affairs.
- Proven success leading integrated communications strategies in complex organizations (e.g., business, policy, or advocacy environments) or an agency environment.
- Exceptional writing and editing skills, with a track record of developing engaging, persuasive content for diverse audiences.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to juggle multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced setting.
- A collaborative mindset and ability to build productive relationships across internal and external teams.
