Position Description:
The Toronto Region Board of Trade (the Board) is seeking a Manager of Policy and Economic Research, reporting to the Senior Director of Economic Research, to join our dynamic policy team and contribute to advancing the Board’s ambitious policy and advocacy agenda. The Manager of Policy and Economic Research plays a pivotal role within the Policy Team, leading research on key policy files, as well as providing support on a range of strategic priorities. The ideal candidate has extensive experience and interest in public policy, a background in economics, strong data analysis skills, qualitative and quantitative research experience, and an ability to formulate and communicate insights on complex policy issues.
Role Description:
- Lead and/or support projects and key outputs in areas of focus, including tax policy, procurement, regulatory reform, access to capital, and other priority areas for the Board.
- Supports the execution of policy-specific events, including expert roundtables and policy symposiums
- Analyzes traditional economic indicators, regional economic data, and other public and private-sector data sets to develop insights and help inform public policy
- Conducts qualitative and quantitative analyses across a variety of policy areas
- Engages with stakeholders to better understand challenges and develop innovative and actionable solutions
- Synthesizes research into impactful, action-oriented presentations and reports to share internally and externally
Your experience includes:
- An undergraduate degree in Economics, Political Science, Public Policy, or a related field of study; A graduate degree is an asset
- At least 3-5 years of experience related to economic research, public policy, regional economic development, and/or data analytics
- Interest in and knowledge of applied public policy research, particularly at the municipal and provincial level
- Experience working in a highly productive research environment or consulting is an asset
- Ability to understand policy issues, assess them, and develop feasible solutions
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in print and in presentations
- Ability to operate in a fast-paced, results-oriented organization
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to meet tight deadlines
