Position Summary
Working under the direction of the PI, Clinical Research Finance Manager and the Clinical Research Coordinator at the Toronto Centre for Liver Disease, the Clinical Research Study Assistant will follow established procedures and support clinical research initiatives under the Autoimmune & Rare Liver Disease (AILD) Programme and PSC-cholangiocarcinoma (PSC-CCA) Programme. They will spearhead an innovative biorepository coordinating collecting bile from patients with bile duct cancer.
Duties
- The CRSA assists with duties including communicating with collaborators, organizing meetings, creating data collection templates with Excel, updating data collection templates, performing literature searches and abstracting data from literature
- Is responsible for conducting activities related to the clinical trials including identifying and screening potential subjects, obtaining informed consent, conducting pretesting and administer questionnaires or other data collection tools, planning, implementing and coordinating all aspects of data collection and source documentations
- Provides assistance with the maintenance & modification of electronic & paper information filing/retrieval methods, systems and/or format
- Executes study-related administrative tasks, i.e. collection of regulatory documents, ethics, submissions
- Conducts telephone and/or clinical recruitment interviews to collect data using established criteria
- Liaises with sponsor for monitoring/audits
- Conduct specified clinical assessments (e.g., vital signs) within scope of qualifications and with appropriate training for research purposes
- Follows established procedures & guidelines and comply with applicable regulations
- Provides assistance to study team in preparing environment for conducting research activities as per protocol
- Assists in interactions with study participants (e.g., scheduling appointments, preparing and assisting participants to clinic rooms, preparing and sending reimbursements, other administrative functions).
Qualifications
- Community College Diploma in a health-related discipline
- Minimum three (3) months of related experience, clinical research experience preferred
- Demonstrated planning and project management skills preferred
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail
- Strong communication, organizational, time management and problem-solving skills
- Adheres to confidentiality policy for sensitive patient data and information
- Ability to work with a team and independently
- Proficiency with MS Office software (including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) is required
- Demonstrated relevant knowledge of clinical research and of human research regulations and guidelines of applicable legislative, UHN and/or departmental policies
- Knowledge of Research regulations and guidelines (such as ICH/GCP, Tri-Council Policy, Declaration of Helsinki, FDR, CFR and Health Canada TPD as required)
- Highly motivated to work in healthcare
- Experience working in a health care environment preferred.
