The ATC at UHN invites applications for a full-time, permanent Senior Scientist (non-tenured research track) and a full time Scientist (non-tenured research track) with an anticipated status-only academic appointment at the University of Toronto at the rank of Assistant to Full Professor (or as appropriate). The successful candidate will lead a basic and translational research program in cell, gene and/or small molecule therapies to promote transplant tolerance and/or cell therapy engraftment. The candidate's research program will emphasize immune engineering, cell therapy, small molecule therapeutics, transplant tolerance and transplant oncology. We especially welcome applicants who build platforms that bridge laboratory discovery with clinical decision-making in transplantation, and who can collaborate with ATC clinical programs such as kidney, liver, lung, heart transplant programs - pancreas/islet transplantation for type 1 diabetes, and transplant infectious diseases. Duties
- Maintain and expand an original, competitive, independently funded research program of international calibre in organ transplantation and cell and small molecule therapies to promote organ repair and regeneration.
- Develop and validate innovative experimental systems towards improving transplant outcomes.
- Build and lead a high-performing research team; mentor trainees at undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral levels with inclusive, equitable practices.
- Engage in collaborative translational science with organ transplantation, organ repair and regeneration, anesthesia/critical care, perfusion, high resolution imaging, bioinformatics, and digital health groups across ATC/UHN.
- Contribute to teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels and to academic service aligned with ATC priorities.
- Compete successfully for peer-reviewed funding and foster industry/consortial partnerships; uphold rigorous open-science and responsible data stewardship.
Qualifications
- PhD (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline and an established record of research excellence.
- Evidence of outstanding publications, successful research funding (peer-reviewed grants/fellowships), and impactful conference presentations.
- Demonstrated experience in team science with clinically oriented collaborations.
- Increasing leadership experience in overseeing a research team, including mentorship and inclusive lab culture.
