Position Summary

UHN Data & Analytics supports UHN’s growing demand for data, data-driven insights and helps TeamUHN ensure the needs of the patients come first. Our collective goal is to better see, understand and use data to help UHN become a data-driven organization, which will help us achieve UHN’s strategic goals and ultimately advance care, research and education. UHN Data & Analytics supports UHN in data-driven decisions, data literacy, performance improvement, data governance, analytics, and automation as well as advances these capabilities through collaboration across the organization.

Cogito is Epic’s suite of data analytics and reporting tools. The Cogito Business Intelligence Developer (BID) reports to Manager, Cogito Business Intelligence. By working closely with other Cogito Business Intelligence (BI) Developers, this position is responsible to create data extract content based on end-user specifications.

The candidate for this role will possess a diverse skill set including SQL, Epic Clarity database and Caboodle database, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as a background in data & analytics within a hospital environment.

Duties

  • Work closely with stakeholders, subject matter experts, and end-users to understand the requirements, and analyze the needs of data consumers
  • Identify and develop the appropriate technological solutions for various data needs;
  • Build extract (in SQL) using Epic’s Reporting databases – Clarity and Caboodle;
  • Write SQL queries and configure report settings for custom SQL metrics;
  • Maintain existing reports/extracts, modify it as necessary;
  • Distribute reports/extracts to data consumers;
  • Review peer reports/extracts for validity;
  • Test report/extract build in a specified testing environment and volume testing in live environments;
  • Review upgrade documentation related to application features and determine how to implement the changes;
  • Troubleshoot problems and questions.
  • Provide support to end users.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate Degree in Health Informatics, Computer Science, Industrial Engineering, Business Analytics, or equivalent;
  • Certification in Epic Cogito BI Developer (Epic Cogito Fundamentals, Clarity Data Model, Caboodle Data Model, Clinical and/or revenue/access Data Model) or equivalent experience is required and can be completed during probationary period.
  • A minimum 3-5 years of experience in building/developing, testing, and deployment of Business Intelligence and Data Analytics reporting tools;
  • In-depth knowledge of UHN’s system build, end user workflows, and patterns of use strongly preferred;
  • Knowledge of clinical and business workflows and data in a Canadian healthcare setting;
  • Knowledge of Ontario healthcare clinical and financial reporting requirements is required;
  • Familiarity with Epic application and database structure;
  • For clinical reporting: Prior experience working with the Epic EMR system is preferred;
  • Proficiency with SQL and relational database concepts;
  • Proficiency and demonstrated experience with analytics tools.
  • Ability to understand data structures that could benefit the entire data environment.
  • Experience in a large IT clinical transformation within a healthcare setting is an asset;
  • Ability to gain an in-depth understanding of data models and data structures;
  • Ability to effectively work both independently and in a team-oriented environment;
  • Ability to quickly identify risks or issues and apply problem solving and/or escalate to management;
  • Skilled at tracking tasks, defining next steps, identifying owners, and holding people accountable;
  • Able to learn in a self-directed, fast-paced, rapidly-changing environment;
  • Ability to analyze data, problem-solve, and clearly communicate solutions;
  • Ability to understand organizational requirements and their impact on the technical aspects of a solution;
  • Ability to work in a complex multi-communication-channel environment;
  • Ability to take ownership of work activities and ensure that they are completed accurately, efficiently, and in a timely manner;
