The Princess Margaret is launching the world’s largest Molecular Residual Disease (MRD) and Cancer Interception Program, focused on early detection, MRD-driven care pathways, and innovative interception therapies.
We are excited to welcome a Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) to the Patient Navigation & Interception Team to support this groundbreaking program. The CNS will work closely with multidisciplinary teams, including oncology, surgery, radiology, pathology, genetics, bioinformatics, and program coordinators, to deliver coordinated, high-precision care for patients participating in the MRD program.

Duties
- MRD Patient Navigation & Clinical Coordination: Lead patient navigation for all individuals entering the MRD and Cancer Interception Program, serving as the primary point of contact for scheduling, pre-visit preparation, education, and guiding patients through sample collection and molecular profiling.
- Results Tracking & Clinical Communication: Coordinate MRD results, ensure timely review by the clinical team, accurate EMR documentation, and clear communication to patients and families.
- Advanced Practice Nursing & Clinical Expertise: Provide specialized care for high-risk patients, manage complex clinical questions related to MRD, recurrence risk, and psychosocial impacts, and support urgent diagnostics or interventions as needed.
- Program Development & Workflow Leadership: Implement standardized MRD pathways across tumor sites, develop SOPs, care maps, and educational materials, and refine cross-departmental workflows in collaboration with the Clinical Operations Team.
- Quality Improvement & Data Management: Monitor patient flow, turnaround times, and outcomes; identify system gaps; lead QI initiatives; and partner with data coordinators to ensure accurate, high-quality data capture.
- Research & Clinical Trials Support: Facilitate patient identification for MRD studies and interception trials, support informed consent, coordinate sample handling, and contribute to research dissemination and program-related academic initiatives.
- Education & Mentorship: Provide ongoing education to clinic nurses, trainees, and interdisciplinary staff on MRD workflows, ctDNA interpretation, and navigation protocols; participate in conferences, rounds, and knowledge translation activities.
- Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement: Work closely with multidisciplinary teams—including oncology, surgery, radiology, pathology, genetics, bioinformatics, advanced practice nurses, and community partners—to ensure coordinated, patient-centered care across the MRD program.
Qualifications
- Current certificate of registration (RN) with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Master’s Degree in Nursing (or recognized equivalent)
- Membership in the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario (RNAO) preferred
- Minimum 4–5 years oncology experience; experience with complex care navigation is strongly preferred
- 2 years experience working in an advanced clinical practice role preferred
- Eligibility for cross appointment within an academic setting
- Experience with precision oncology, ctDNA technologies, genetics, or clinical trials is an asset.
- Certification in Oncology Nursing (preferred)
- Demonstrated ability to lead complex, multi-stakeholder workflows
- Outstanding communication, counselling, and patient education skills
- Proficiency with digital health tools, EMRs, and data systems
- Eligibility for cross-appointment to an academic institution
- Comfort with emerging science, AI-enabled workflows, and rapidly evolving clinical evidence.
