Salary Range: $109,162 - $159,162 annual
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Shifts: Monday - Friday, with On-Call Rotation
Status: Permanent Full Time

Position Summary
As an integral member of the Laboratory Medicine Team, the Senior Manager - Microbiology Toronto General Hospital, is responsible for leading and managing the microbiology operations at the Toronto General Hospital site: Toronto General Hospital, including all obligations as defined by the Ministry of Health & Long Term Care, Accreditation Canada and the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario. Responsibilities include: human resources management; site operations management; corporate obligations; strategy and business development; customer service, clinical and educational responsibilities.

Duties

  • Manage unionized and non-unionized staff, including hiring, orientation and performance management
  • Lead staff including: operations and quality leaders and medical laboratory professionals.
  • Ensure portfolio operates in accordance with all applicable legislation or regulations (e.g., ACDx)
  • Guide the development of administrative protocols and standard operation procedures (SOPs)
  • Ensure operating targets are met through continual growth planning, financial stewardship, continuous quality control and business development
  • Represent the Microbiology portfolio and Laboratory Medicine Program at hospital and external committees and/or meetings
  • Guide implementation of system improvements that support innovation in microbiology diagnostics in concert with interdisciplinary clinical stakeholders
  • Lead implementation of new clinical services, best practices and/or business development initiatives
  • Connect and negotiate with internal/external, public/private stakeholders within the laboratory medicine landscape
  • Maintain capital plan
  • Develop and maintain portfolio employee engagement tactics

Qualifications

  • Minimum, completion of a relevant Master’s Degree in Healthcare or Business Administration *Current UHN employees must meet this condition by 2030
  • Registration with CMLTO, an asset
  • 5-7 years previous supervisory, management, or leadership experience
  • 5-7 years experience working in clinical laboratory medicine, an asset
  • Experience working in a large academic acute care environment, an asset
  • Completion of a pharmacy residency program preferred or equivalent experience
  • Professional Society Membership relevant to laboratory medicine (e.g. CSMLS), preferred
  • Experience with microbiology operations, an asset
  • Experience leading large unionized teams, an asset
  • Excellent communication, financial planning, and problem solving skills
