Position Summary:
The Radiation Medicine Program (RMP) at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre is dedicated to providing exceptional patient care and advancing innovative research in radiation oncology. RMP is a comprehensive program focused on improving patient outcomes through state-of-the-art technology, research and collaboration. As cancer survival improves, re-irradiation is increasingly required for patients with local recurrence or new malignancies in regions previously treated with radiation. Delivering a second course of radiation (termed reirradiation) is technically complex, requiring careful assessment of the risk of serious side-effects and coordinating multidisciplinary care. In response to a growing re-irradiation caseload, a new re-irradiation workflow was implemented across RMP in 2025, developed by a multidisciplinary working group and aligned with emerging best practices.
The RMP Summer Student will assist in building a comprehensive review of RMP annual re-irradiation activity, assessing compliance with existing best-practice recommendations, and identifying frontline priorities for improvement. This quality improvement project will provide foundational data to help shape future re-irradiation RMP policies, clinical pathways, and research directions.
