Position Summary
The Hodaie lab is seeking a lab manager who is interested in joining the lab in this role, contribute to ongoing research and help manage projects in the lab. The Lab Manager will oversee the day-to-day operations of a surgical neuroimaging lab within the Krembil Brain Institute, located at Toronto Western Hospital. This role is responsible for coordinating clinical research studies, managing data infrastructure, fostering an academic and collaborative lab culture, and ensuring the efficient execution of multidisciplinary projects spanning neuroimaging, patient-based research, and translational neuroscience. Working closely with the Principal Investigator, clinicians, research staff, and healthcare workers, the Lab Manager will lead study operations, maintain regulatory compliance, and support data-driven discovery through effective team coordination and research oversight.
Duties
- Lead coordination and execution of multiple concurrent clinical research studies, ensuring alignment with study protocols and timelines.
- Oversee the maintenance, and optimization of electronic and paper-based data management systems, including participant records, multimedia lab data, biospecimens, and MRI imaging data
- Manage data flow internally across lab members and with external collaborators.
- Supervise study operations, including participant recruitment, data collection, clinical data acquisition from registries, data analysis, and manuscript preparation
- Maintain and enforce detailed documentation and compliance with institutional and ethical guidelines
- Contribute to study design, data analysis, and interpretation of results, supporting preparation of manuscripts, presentations, and grant applications
- Evaluate and refine data collection strategies and research workflows to improve efficiency and scalability
- Provide training, guidance, and coordination for research staff, trainees, and students
- Serve as a central liaison between clinical teams, research personnel, and external collaborators
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in a health, science, or related discipline (PhD considered an asset)
- Minimum 2-3 years of experience in clinical or translational research (experience in a healthcare environment preferred)
- Experience with data management, medical imaging, neurosciences, machine learning
- Familiarity with clinical research processes (REB/IRB preparation/review), study coordination (patient recruitment, data collection), and protocol management (GCP certification considered an asset)
- Knowledge of medical terminology and clinical data handling (familiarity with Epic considered an asset)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), Coding (python, R, bash), Neuroimaging tools (NeurodeskApp, FSL, Freesurfer, MRTrix, etc considered an asset)
- Experience with basic human biospecimen handling (collection, centrifugation, aliquoting, cryostorage, and sample tracking under clinical research protocols)
- Experience handling blood products and human biospecimens, including working under a Biological Safety Cabinet (BSC) (familiarity with basic biosafety level (BSL-2) procedures considered an asset).
- Experience with data management systems & local databases (Datalad, Truenas, Git considered an asset)
- Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple concurrent priorities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities
- High attention to detail and ability to work under pressure
- Ability to work independently while coordinating within a multidisciplinary team
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate across clinical and research environments
